This is my very first time hatching ducks EVER so i am really freaked out

Plus it is 10 at night
I heard you have to sprits it with water every hour and i really dont think i can wake up every hour
Is there anything i can do?

This egg is in TOP care
But i do need sleep

I have a glass of water near the egg so the moisture will evaporate

And i have the cage prepared for when it hatches so if it hatches when im asleep it will be ok

I am juat worried about humidity
Any tips?
Yes I have a tip. Put the egg in an incubator or under a broody if you want it to hatch.

I have read the glossaries and tried to find the definition of some terms but I can't... Would someone explain the terms draw down and other terms noted in discussions about the air cell?
Is there somewhere I should look for this info?
MARKING AIR CELLS DAY 18, DRAW DOWN, INTERNAL PIP, EXTERNAL PIP, and ZIPPING post #35770

I don't know why I keep my three German shepherds right now they are lucky I am not turning them into shish kabobs ... They ended my hatch early while out of the living room for 5 minutes they got into the incubator I was absolutely horrified when I returned to see the mess ... Out they went and the salvage process started up somehow 12 have survived one is touch and go right now .... The carpet is all cleaned up but I lost 14 babies today almost killed my shepherds at least I am relatively level headed. A little bummed out tho.

Sorry to hear about the idiot dogs.

So far: one unzipping chick, one pip and two eggs that are rolling a round like mad.

HELP ASAP, it came out and jerked away from the eggs and blood leaked out its naval
Iodine or betadine on the naval

My wife makes some of the best soups in the world...we've always been poor...but we always ate well....Prime Rib sounds expensive but it really goes a long way.....and the leftovers are awesome.
Sounds fabulous.

Will the hen.stay on the other three.eggs she has.there.not f? Due to hatch for two days or so
If the hatch is staggered. (eggs contributed after she started setting) She won't make the chick wait more than 2 days to take it out for food an water. She'll abandon unfinished eggs to care for the live chick/s.
That's why they don't lay eggs after going broody.

Just leave her in peace and hopefully she will stay and hatch them all. The more she is disturbed the more likely she is to give up early.
X2

Having a record hatch this weekend. 191 out of the incubators so far, a few more still in there. Looks like I will break 200 easily.

Yes, yes, I am a bit insane, but I'm sure to find understanding here.
WOW!!!
My incubator can hold 200 but the hatcher only holds 50 so I have to do staggered settings.

So I bought a chick this morning who is showing signs of wry neck now. I'm thinking the stress of the move brought it out. Poor thing keeps turning its head to the side and walking in circles. I started vitamin e and selenium supplements already but I don't know how much to give. I haven't separated the chick because I think that would be more stress. The chick has its head normalish, not turned and upside down yet. Hopefully I can prevent it from getting that bad!? They are on good food, but I just bought them at 10:30 today. Siblings are fine, it's one out of the seven amerecuanas I bought today. PLEASE quote me if you reply so I can find the reply, the board gets busy sometimes and I can't read all the pages lol
I'd try about 25mcg selenium and 50iu vitamin E twice a day.

Hey guys, how long would you quarantine day old chicks? I will be putting them in with March first and twelfth chicks from a hatchery that are in a coop that was cleaned and sprayed with a viricide before they moved in last week.
If the chicks came straight from a hatchery, they probably don't need quarantine. If they came from a feed store where dozens of people with chickens handled them, I'd keep them separate for a month to see if they come down with something.

it's been over.24 hours
Don't worry about it.
Birds have been hatching out of eggs for millions of years without human intervention.
If they don't hatch on their own, they weren't meant to. Coddling weak birds doesn't do them or the breed any favors.

I hate the way my phone changes the darn words then I have to go back and edit
I don't think I could even post on this site from a phone. Give me a full keyboard. 2 thumbs doesn't get it.

Morning all. Had another hatch last night. I try to give it 24 hrs with no change after the first one hatches before I call it. Not sure how to get my hatches closer together but these 3-4 day hatches are getting old. These were all my eggs of the same breed so I was hoping maybe I had taken most of the variables out. Maybe Aprils hatch will be closer.

Some are just eager to get out is all. I had most of mine hatch on day 20 & 21 but had three late to the party on day 22

@ChickenCanoeGood morning! These chicks came from a breeder. My other chicks are all from a certified NPIP and mycoplasma free hatchery except the dozen I hatched out. They are inside right now in a Tupper brooder, but I wondered if they needed a full month. I don't want to take any chances.
