All right, I just managed to leave the Tractor Supply store without chicks. I am home and now wish I had got them. Maybe. I want some Silkies and they had some unusual colored ones. They also had Lavender Cochins. I have to buy six but six would put me over my 12 maximum that I agreed to with DH. I have 3 good layers right not that are keeping us comfortably in eggs. One OE roo is going up for sale. I have my Bantam Wyandotte roo and his pullet (the hen died). I was planning on getting a dozen eggs from the lady who sold me them to try and hatch out at least two more hens. But I really want a Silkie.
I have a bunch in the lower lever you can have!!!

I asked last night about my heat lamp because I am waiting on Amazon to get my heating pad to me. I was off on ages. The youngest out in the coop hatched March 15, most were March 1, and the oldest were the third week of February.
I know it says to have heat until they are fully feathered, but there are forty eight chicks in the 8.5x10 insulated shed coop I built last fall. With the days going up to high sixties to today's 81(hottest yet). And forecasts for lows in the upper thirties and highs forcasted for high sixties or low seventies all week with the coop all shut up and the 30x60" window that faces West I am worried about the heat. I went to a regular 75w bulb.
Do they need the heat? When it was 5° I could keep water in the coop and it did not freeze. Here are the youngest from last week, and the coop.

you know I use a thermo outlet to plug all my heated waters in and heat lamps

I am so worried that they are baking in my coop right now and I'm two hours away.
you have good ventilation>?

15 minutes after being told there was 1 baby hatched and just 1 pip, my mother texted me that there were 2 babies, no pips. But, 40 minutes later she said 3 babies, and that she never saw that one pip. But then 15 minutes later, I get a message 4 babies, no pips. Why do I not believe her that there are no pips? I think she doesn't consider anything pipped until they actually start to zip (or in some cases finish zipping).

But good news, 4 babies hatched, and who knows how many pips!!!
awesome go babies go!!

@mlm Mike I don't doubt you last night, I just left the 75w on this morning and I am worried. I am also interested in a second opinion.
Thank you!!

looks like mine

@Sally Sunshine Normally the ventilation is good, but I have the coop all locked up like a brooder except the upper vents that don't close because they are not all feathered so they supposedly need a heat source, but I am afraid since it got hotter than it was supposed to get. In thses temperatures with that many of them, do they really need the heat of a bulb?
Of course not today, in fact since it is closed and on I am worried.
Do they need it at all with that many of them and the lows projected to high 30's?

Could use some wise eyes. First try at incubating goose eggs. Been turning 5 times a day, temp at 37.5C, humidity between 55-65%, at day 5 started misting and cooling for 5 mins a day.

At day 10 today, and candled. One looks like I expected - veins are visible. 2 look like nothing (although shells on those two are SUPER thick) and 3 look like this:

I can see faint veins in the dark area, but they are like divided in 1/2...dark on one side, light on the other. Is this normal? Are they bad...even with the faint veining?
