I have a spinge with water and a wet rag in the bator to keep humidity up. 11/3 ps... she talks to her eggs like some other hatchers do... I got a great deal on a Brinsea mini for $25 bucks and it is at full capacity with 8 shipped black copper Marans eggs and the hygrometer. I am hoping for some quality breeding stock out of this hatch to add to my existing blue copper breeding prospects. We really also wanted to hatch some from our existing mixed flock too- so I was able to talk my husband into letting me get a Hovabator on sale :) and each family member chose a hen we wanted a baby from. So we have 6 in there. They are all covered by our silver laced Wyandotte rooster. So there's a slw egg, 2 barred rocks eggs (Chicks should be black sex-links), 2 Easter eggers eggers, and a black sex link's egg. daxigait Chipper Chicken I'm new to incubating too, but probably won't do any until next year, I'm trying to read and learn all I can in advance. Flockmama87 I'm on day 7! (11/7) First time with shipped Marans eggs off eBay and at day 7 candling 11/12 are alive and growing strong, 1 died early, no veins, clearish with an incomplete blood ring, I left it in just in case, my last 2 hatches I had moments of oops I thought you were dead....sorry you are now.... I'm trying to avoid that this time. So I'm leaving everyone in until lockdown unless someone starts oozing or weeping.....I need the next 14 days to go by quickly, I wanna see little fuzzy butts! Bernadine503 thermometer questions Hawk12 Hatch day is the 19th.I am incubating shipped eggs that are on day 8. (11/7) I just candled them and marked the air cells and I have some that are saddle shaped but attached and some that are normal shaped but not completely attached. Is there still hope for the babies? They are alive at this point I am incubating blue and gold partridge brahmas, chocolate and molted/spangled orpingtons, dbl laced barnevelder (only 1 left out of 6) and 1 maline. I received eggs from 3 different sellers. I have incubated before but only about 4 times. I have ordered eggs on 3 of those and have yet to have a successful hatch on shipped eggs. I am determined to hatch shipped eggs but I have to admit it gets discouraging. I had a great hatch when I incubated my own eggs, nearly 100%. My incubator is a still air Styrofoam with an automatic egg turner. I have read through the Hatching 101 article, it is full of great information. The babies on my previous attempts with shipped eggs all made it to lockdown but then never hatched. Bubbles12345 I'm interested in building an incubator, see post post #657 of 734 and CABINET COOLER INCUBATOR ~ CoolerBATOR ~ sonshine15 Late to the party, but better late then neverhttps://www.backyardchickens.com/u/361786/sonshine15:lau
Thank you for putting this together, this is awesome. I would give you an ovation but I don't know how :( I'm new to BYC and I haven't figured that out yet. Great job though! :)

Ok for what its worth I have a 1588 and have only hatched ONCE. Bout four years ago.

I bought a reptile thermometer/hygrometer and NEVER touched any calibration what so ever. I set Araucana eggs and Gunea Fowl eggs at the same time. All from pullets all gathered from the floor of the coop. The guinea eggs had sat out in full sun being Jack booted by the guineas. I gathered up the cleanest of all. it was summer time. So temperatures were in the high nineties.

Broght the eggs down to San Diego and set em all. Six Auracana and Four Guinea. Put them in the inucbator and timed it I did Candle but ONly saw movement in the Guinea eggs. I only candled twice. before lockdown for the chicken eggs. I locked em all down at the same time knowing I was early by a couple of days for the Guineas.

None of the Auracanas hatched.... But three our of four Guineas hatched. It was like watching popcorn... as soon as a pip happened the zip was about a third of the way around and POP... OMG they were so tiny and soo cute...

I did everything wrong... Nothing should have hatched. I consider myself luckey.

I havent hatched since.

Sounds like me, only mine were quail, 30 years ago, in a 2362N Hova-bator

oh man!!!

I am sorry, :hugs do you think you can try to get a thermostat to install in that thing if your temps vary that much in the house? or do you have a more stable room in the house?  any way I can help you get set up for next run?  @ambe0487
and @Peep-Chicken. @mymilliefleur and everyone who helped along the way, Thanks! I checked my internal thermometers to be sure temps were right (I rechecked over the last 24hrs to be sure it was calibrated correctly), humidity was good. I'm sure not realizing our house thermostat changes at night because of the programming until day 21 had a lot to do with how it ended. from what i've read that produces weak chicks possibly unable to get out of the shell.

For the future I've figured out how to turn te thermostat programming off during hatch to reduce outside temp flux.

I have my incubator cleaned and plugged back in to be sure I can check for cold/hot spots before the next incubation. I'm planning on getting another set of eggs on the 22nd so I have plenty of time to regulated the incubator to where it needs to be!

It was exactly a week ago that it came and took my silkies. After that incident, we put up trail cams and have been looking every night... Came back last night for a snack, but no snack.

Blimey! And I thought my problem with the human thief variety was bad!!!

Hope your remaining chickies are safe.
