That name is too funny.Uglybator on this hatch, with updated wires!
Uglybator interior, I put shelf liner over the wire when they go into lockdown. (the thermometer is running low because I just turned the eggs AND it's not calibrated.)
The actually sensor is that little red thing at the top of the cardboard carton.
these were the original wires we used on Uglybator. Eeek! Some of them were duck taped together. LOL
Quote: I'm hatching 1st eggs now and upto now 7 out of 12 and still 2 to go, 3 were infertile
nope you know what your looking for! have at it!@Sally Sunshine today is day 8. Would you like me to candle them again and give you results or wait till day 10. I had been gently hand turning the Serama in egg carton cups before candling them, I took them out of cups and put them in Turner after candle as the viable looking ones had solid air cells.
@Sally Sunshine I will totally set again. In January, then probably again in March.
Still no eggs for me. The seller is returning my emails which is a good sign. I'll give them a little more time. But at this rate I might use them for the new years hatch a long.
No no no. I'm sorry for misleading there. This is just testing the systems of the incubator. I will then make sure it holds 99.5 - 100. I won't actually test this as an incubator until I get all the tests out of the way. Heat is a 100W bulb. I know I should have a backup based on Sally's plans, but I'm still testing whether these scrap materials can actually turn into a working bator.
Edited to add, I don't even have fertile eggs to test this on, so whether or not it actually hatches anything will not be known for a couple months.
Wow, I got candle of the year?! Thanks Miss @Sally Sunshine !![]()
So interesting development here on my front...Wasn't it just a few days ago that @Hawk12 was telling us about her husband having the "talk" with her about her "obsession?" And as I read her post I was thinking to myself how fortunate I've been that my husband has let me go about this "thing" so freely... Then lo and behold, two nights ago he inquired about my chicken math... And then gave me a talking to since we have 5 3-week old chicks in the brooder and 10 eggs set to hatch soon... And just where was I planning on putting all these chickens? I told him he needed to build me another coop!
Wrong answer. Well, Miss @Sally Sunshine , no bear came by but apparently Mr. Bobcat paid us a visit sometime yesterday as I was missing one girl at closing time. We walked around the house and found the trail of feathers...
So what did I do last night? Maybe it was out of rebellion after our talk... Maybe it was because I lost a girl last night... Or maybe it was the addiction... But I put in the last Silkie egg and 3 LF eggs into the incubator (because the Silkie would need friends)!
And no, he doesn't know!
I'm telling myself it's an experiment to see how the eggs handle staggered hatching!![]()

did ya get a weight?![]()
Nice, I'm hoping my monster egg isn't a double. Talked to her last night, and she said some of those have been, but a lot weren't. Wouldn't it be fun if I got that thing to hatch. How big would that chick be?!?
DITTO!!!Actually, I like mine with a single bulb better than the new ones with a bunch of little bulbs. Mini-MagLite. I taped a piece of craft foam to the top, with a hole cut in the foam, to soften it against the egg.
