I pulled the shell from around the pip did not tear the membrane.there started a drop of blood so I took the cut up and wiped it and put it straight back in.

Good job. The chick knew it was not time to hatch. Waiting is the hardest part, but not waiting often means helping the chicks die faster. Especially for beginners, who are so excited and think that hatching should be like opening a plastic Easter egg to get the candy out, it's so hard to explain how important it is to wait, and wait, then wait some more.

Sometimes chicks don't hatch, and die in the shell. If it was left to the momma hen, they would die for sure. If you can be like the momma hen, and just let chicks hatch that can hatch, you will usually end up with healthier chicks.

The one that can't walk may have a really, really full belly of yolk. I've seen them take a while to use it up so they can balance properly when standing. Can that one stand if you lift it? If so, it may be okay on its own.

I suggest you get an old, clean rag towel and put it on top of the shredded paper. An old T-shirt or flannel would be even better. The problem with shredded paper is that it is very, very hard for them to walk through. While they are learning to stand and walk, it's important not to strain their legs too much with slippery or difficult surfaces. Would you teach a baby to walk by putting it in a ball pit?
