Yes, we never have bought meat. When I was growing up, we would go out to the milk barn and dip a glass jug in the dip tank. Since we don't milk anymore, we hand milk for our milk. I can't stand store bought milk!!!! We make our own breakfast sausage, bacon, kielbasa, snack stick, jerky, etc. We buy everything from a locker supply; casings, paper, spices, vacuum bags, etc.
Now see, this is the life I could have lived. My grandmother didn't have cattle, but she had a lot of different fowl. We ate a lot of chicken from her place.
I didn't get elk, deer, antalope, wild quail, pheasant, and many other wild meats until I married. Went hunting a lot. We kept ourselves, and family in meat. We didn't live on a farm, but we loved having our freezer full of meat..and oh! Can't forget the fish! Loved, loved fishing. Lake Powell was one of my favorite places.
I know there are a few not wanting to talk hunting, or fishing, but after seeing photos, I just can't help myself..I love it. It's part of who I was and maybe some won't mind seeing/hearing about it. That was me. Loving the life in the mountains, hunting and fishing, and just camping.
