looks to me like its the smart one. protected on one side, the others are out in the open.He/she is that little black bump WAY ON THE other side of the pen. They are inside, in a insulated/heated porch. Not drafty. I could understand a little ways away, but WAY in the corner is bizarre. During the day they hang out together, but night time, this one goes solo.

Exactly why I used electric fence with aluminum wire. Still high tensile, but not as high as regular galvanized wire. Horse has a chance to get out of trouble. I'd rather replace a section of fence than replace a horse...been down that road one too many times already.
