I set very round BR eggs that I helped pick out the first time, and I got 9 roos and 6 pullets. I don't believe this theory. Perhaps someone got lucky a time or two and got more pullets and started that rumor, but that'll always be the case. There's no scientific evidence to back the claim that round is more likely to hatch pullets...

I'm not ready to accept it myself; mostly curious. Using my own eggs, so it costs nothing.

Love mine! I've had mine running non stop since May and had great results. I just got the Octo 20 for Xmas and put my NYD chicks in it. All my hatching friends have already had theirs hatch and I'm still waiting. Not a single pip yet. At this point I'm really leaning towards liking my mini better!

You're on thin ice, Dear. Better be plugging those holes PDQ! It's scary how quick a family of coons can wipe out a flock of chickens. A roll of 1/4" hardware cloth from Lowes will solve that problem quick. Just don't ask a clerk where it is; the clerks in our store never heard of it...they just sell it!

Yep.... No 'coons around here I know but I don't aim to find out i'm wrong!!!!

There are coons everywhere; you don't see much of them 'cause they're nocturnal. In fact, if you see one in daylight & it doesn't seem to fear you, give it a wide berth; chances are good it's rabid.

I was interested in stuff like that awhile back, and started researching it. They've come up with a way to test the DNA in the egg by using a laser beam to cut a tiny hole in the shell and then extract a tiny sample. Can't remember what the process is called, but it's apparently not cheap. They're thinking it going to be the next big thing for commercial hatcheries, specifically those for laying houses. They think it will eliminate the millions of baby roos being slaughtered every year since they are of no value... other than being ground up and used for potted meat... err... fertilizer.
