I use my chickens egg, only when the production is low I buy only locally organic eggs, but all the others what should they do?

I don't trust the government to make my choices for me . people have to worry about that .raw eggs should not be eaten no matter where they come from. cooking at high temperatures will kill most things . including the good stuff . so do what you must scrambled eggs as opposed to sunny side up . I do it a lot more now .hate it but do it

you still can!! @chicknlove

@dolfi how is your fart egg

@Saris
updated pics? and how are your Eden Camp birdies?

thanks

your taking temps at the middle level of the eggs? idea is to get 99.5-100 as internal temp of the eggs (middle)

Guess I won't die, then; at least not from undercooked eggs. I prefer them scrambled...always have.

That wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Didn't attempt to break the ice in the water pan; just swapped it out for a fresh one. Made sure to get the early egg before it froze. Sure glad I ain't a chicken, though, sleeping in a cold box this time of year. They're fine in there; just huddle up. At least they were sharp enough to get away from the door yesterday while it was open.

Need to have a little "birds and the bees" conversation with my rooster.
@Peachickie how did that conversation go?

Hey everyone... I have 4 eggs still in the incubator. All the other chicks hatched yesterday. Except I think three died during lockdown. No internal pip, no movement during candle..... I have a Silkie who has been trying to pip for about 14 hours now. She's trying, I can hear her peeping and pecking! Just no pip! I'm worried the shell may be too thick to pip.... Should I make an artificial pip to help her? I wouldn't ever unzip. Just maybe help her get the pip. She just keeps peeping louder as time passes. The egg is rockin and rolling around. She just can't seem to get through the shell.
@Laney3535 how are your new babies doing?

Thanks to @Sally Sunshine for the late night welcome, and encouragement, last night! As per her suggestion, I will just paste a copy of my (now edited) note to her:

Hi Sally!
I lurked and followed the NY hatch along beginning to end because I was really excited to learn about hatching my own eggs... Now I'm terrified! I'm not a total moron, I taught myself how to graft fruit trees while on house arrest with our firstborn, have bred canaries, golden retrievers and leopard tortoises... I have two, science based, bachelor degrees, and yet, I've convinced myself I won't get one live chick! We've put in an order to have eggs shipped from CT to CA- Following the many praises I saw in the HAL, I went with the Genesis 1588. I purchased the turner but have gathered, from you fine folks, it's not good to use with shipped eggs.

I need all the advice you can give... Thank you!!!

@gotro17
I am way behind on the thread so I will just ask anyways not knowing if you posted more as I read along .... What have you decided to set?
@Sally Sunshine, yes it is in the middle range, but my incubator is still air so ive been keeping the temp higher
if you have a probe your best bet is to try to get an internal type reading even with still air. not sure what thermometers you have. probe can be placed in one of those wiggler sleaves or I folded a small cold booboo pack up from the freezer after it got to bator temps and keep my probe and reg thermo sticking in the middle of it.

I trust my chickens and I do know what is their condition and what they eat, so there is no problem to eat their eggs ANY way you choose , the pathogens in the eggs is the last thing that I worry about, because good cooking kill them entirely, I am worrying about the chemical that can be found in them! Antibiotics, pesticides, fungicide and 5 years ago they found one criminal farmer that the egg he produced had Arsenic!!!!
(And i don't trust government on anything! )
