I know a de-icer will keep the water unfrozen in the bucket, but for the pipes... not so much. A pipe heating cable (for PVC) can be installed to the pipe to keep water from freezing in it, and horizontal nipples should be used as they don't hold water in them like vertical nipples do, so they're less susceptible to freezing... and keeps wattles from getting wet.

Ok. What about watering solutions that don't include electricity? Any ideas? Currently, they are drinking out of a gallon ice cream container. But the problem is the roosters wattles get wet & then freeze with the cold temps we have been having. We don;t have electric out to the coop and I'm not sure my DH would want me running extension cords everywhere.

The egg on the left is the pullet's, the middle egg is a mature RSL, and the egg on the right is production RIR. I love large eggs, so I need some more RIR. I'm working on that...

Any opinions on Valbazen for chickens. Figured I should worm now since am down 6 chickens and they aren't laying good.
