Do any of ya'll use food coloring in your hens' vents to mark hatching eggs?
I find this idea fascinating, as I suspect I will have this issue.

Just got home and I found
1 egg left under broody
No sign of any chicks
Maybe she ate them?
She won't let any hen near her box

Also a dead quail

Yay

Hey Phil, you got one??

I LOVE that - when I used to have a boat and fish every single weekend, I could've really used that... (You know, I still have that fishing kayak...)

And any one else
This is what the spent grain looks like. I picked up more today. The grain is sprouted then stopped just as the root emerges. Roasted to different degrees for flavor. Ground a little and then warm water is passed through it to collect the sugars leaving the proteins. Not only do the chickens love it but it makes great bread as well.
That's so interesting - I'll have to see if there's any of that around here (that's not already spoken for).

I can't feed it exclusively as its too much fiber and can hurt more than help.
Earthworms love it as well
As far as availability I have to bribe my friend to get first dibs. I give him eggs for it. When the hens are laying well enough. :lau
The pig farmer is my biggest competition
