I plan to breed some BSL this fall if I can get some HRIR in the spring.603 posts in one day!![]()
Put 18 BR eggs in the hatcher yesterday. After this hatch going to start being a mix. Started a breeding pen with my Buff Brahmas and another one with a heritage red and put some barred rocks in there for sex links. Took the other barred rocks out. Had them in there too long started to lay bad. They need a break.
Good morning, Pen!Good morning everyone. Off to work will drop in when I can. Have a great day.
I've assisted in the same way, but if there are veins, they're not quite ready to hatch. Just keep humidity high so the membrane doesn't dry out and they should be fine.I posted my own thread, but maybe I'll get some better and quicker answers here. I have two call ducklings trying to hatch. They both internally pipped 48+ hours ago. When I saw that they were internally pipped, I made an external pip for them since they usually can't do it on their own because of their short bills. Last night I went ahead and removed a little bit of shell around the egg to help them when they're ready to zip. I checked this morning and their veins are huge. I've assisted with several hatches, but I've never had to pip for one. Did I do something wrong that's causing them not to absorb the veins, or are they just taking their sweet time? I'm terrified that they're gonna die in the shell.

Hi HeatherMarie! welcome over to our house! call ducks take much much longer than chicken eggs to absorb. creating the external pip for them too soon can actually slow the process yes. As long as you let them alone to do their thing they should be fine. there really isnt much you can do at this point, if there is blood in veins they just are not ready. These ducks are very hard to incubate. Just never get them out of the shell, they will tell you, and again if they cant after the veins are dry they have other issues with breathing etc. remember pics always help us to help you! your welcome here anytime!
