How many hens do you have? We dont have
Many chickens so our feed aint too expensive

I have no laying hens right now, just starting with chickens. 2 Rouen Hens, 1 drake and 5-9 week old chicken hen's with 1 rooster.

Plan to have 10+ Chicken hen's then my ducks. Feed is around $30 a month right now.

I was always told to keep the vent plugs out.honestly, I don't ever use them and have no clue where they are. If I have trouble getting humidity up, I throw in a wet sponge for a boost.

I just pulled them out ,i thought they wrre to help control the humidity like if it got to high i would unplug them them put them back in once it came back down,i was way off , im glad i found out , im worried about humidity change in the main one right now cause i did just unplug both things but i added a littld more water to the base and im going to keep a close eye on it to make sure it stays where it needs to be, i do have a little dish of water in the lockdown bator i had one plug out already so i just took the second out im not to worry about that humidity havent a big change but i added a littld more to it as well and of course ill check on it

Whoa. Thats quite a flock there.
Unfortunately for me where i live we can only have 6 chickens per lot. We have 5 and can get 7 more chickens

So sorry... I know that they ( fluoroquinolones ) can cause some serious problems in young dogs, so perhaps the same is true in people? Here is an example of how well it can work: [COLOR=333333]
My my first ever sinus infection. Chick weight - 800 grams. Gave 0.16ml of 10% Baytril IM.

Have my first URI in a peachick. Here it is at 9 am:

Four hours later:

Here he is 8 hours later. Note that I have not wiped his face.

28 hours later - still some swelling that is hard to see in pictures and some clear drainage from nostril. Up five grams, which is not enough, but it's better than a loss.

Being so young didn't help, but it wasn't the only contributing factor. My dad has severe damage from them also as do the thousands of people I've run across online. They do work wonderfully, but especially in people they aren't worth the risk unless it's life or death. The FDA pretty much admitted that on November 5th of last year. I don't really have any experience with them in animals though. I love Denagard though.

I also use easy to fill troughs that elevate the feed out of the bedding and that cannot be flipped or tipped over. This one took me about 5-10 min. to build and cost no money...just scraps of boards, some screws, a piece of fence wire and two zip ties. This one is about 18 in. long and 3 in. high.

Another wonderful secret to a brooder that has no smells, where feed is never wasted and where the feces break down very quickly into the bedding is the use of fermented feeds. It costs no money, has a laundry list of benefits to the chickens, you can use nearly half the feed you normally would feed and get twice the nutrition, and it's incredibly easy to implement.

My brooders are built from hay bales and take about 10 min. to break down and store away, no cleaning necessary at the end because I brood my chicks in one corner of the coop my adult flock uses and I also use the deep litter that is already in place there.

This one pictured below has a way more hay in it than I normally would use but I was using it to cover my heating pad brooder heater frame to create a little heated bunker for the chicks, but when using a heat lamp I just use the deep litter on the floor of the brooder.

Quote: Slowly catching up... Thanks for sharing your knowledge!

Had several different vets prescribe it for my young birds, and many people on BYC have had it prescribed for their young ones. This is something I found in Clinical Avian Medicine:

And this is from a veterinary drug handbook of mine:
