Taffy-Maple-Syrup-on-Snow.jpg

1. Pack clean snow into a pan or wide dish, or just find a good patch outside not too far from your kitchen.

2. In a small pot, bring 1/2 cup of maple syrup to a boil over med-high heat. Put in a candy thermometer, and wait until it reaches 235F.

3. Pour in small streams over snow. It might be easier to put the syrup in a heat proof measuring cup first. Give the syrup 10-15 seconds to solidify a bit on the snow, place a popsicle stick in it and roll the syrup over the stick.

Enjoy this while it's nice and cold. Pea devours hers immediately, but Elle and I savor it, trying to make it last. Sometimes this savoring warms up the taffy, and we just roll it back in snow for that cold sweet kick. This will get messy. Someone will have sticky hands. I recommend pulling your hair back from your face

yep yep.... only for certain sticks lol

Lots of mistreatment over the years, unfortunately it has been my personal experience that all of the 'new breed' of native leaders want to be repaid over and over and over again for the deeds of the past.
I am proud to count myself amongst the Metis, and I am proud of my ancestors, it is my peers these days that are always looking for a hand out, instead of a hand up, that make me ashamed.
I agree that my ancestors were horribly mistreated, but my grandparents and my parents always taught me that you work hard, and you can overcome any obstacle, you don't wait for someone else to hand it to you because of past wrongs
You were taught well!
