Couldn't have said it better. I've had a lot of dogs bouncing off of chain link and coop windows here. That's what my shotgun is for.
One evening my wife scheduled a chick fest with wine, chatting with friends sitting around a fire and everyone bringing their dogs.
Most were little foo foo dogs but one was a big mongrel my wife's best friend had recently rescued from the pound. It was on the prowl when all my chickens were still out.
It kept ranging farther and farther afield and I told her to contain her dog because the chickens were out. She nonchalantly said, "oh I don't think he'll hurt them". I was like
. I said, it's a dog, that's what they do. Each time I pleaded with her to contain the dog, she kept saying it would be fine. Finally, I told her, "don't make me kill your dog." She was in shock and said, "you wouldn't kill my dog". I calmly said, "If your dog grabs one of my chickens, I'll kill your dog." I then brought out the shotgun that's always loaded on the back porch and she panicked. She started calling her dog but it was too late. It blasted through the woods chasing chickens. Luckily for her, they all got away.
After things calmed down she was incredulous and couldn't understand why I would kill a dog over a chicken. She's a chef and the only thing she knows about chickens is how to cook them.
She still to this day (after much explanation) can't understand why trios of this breed go for $250.
Mine's in April and I do something similar. Hopefully have all the tomatoes ad possibly chilies and herbs in by then.
You described my canoe to a T. It is a very stable
cargo barge (my description). It's a white water excursion boat that holds 1,00 lbs. No keel and fair rocker for turning on a dime. Fairly wide with excellent tumblehome for shedding water.

Growing up we always did Jon Boats on MO and AR streams. I didn't start canoeing till I was in my 20s. I believe I would be happy canoeing small mountain streams every day the rest of my life.
We have a very few small class IV and V rivers. They're mostly kayak and decked canoe streams but I've paddled them alone in this open cargo barge with no mishaps.
We tube A LOT in Missouri.
There's maybe 40+ excellent float streams south of the Missouri river.
You sound like me. I have so much refurbishing to do to my cabinet incubator/hatcher combination.
