So you fight a roo? I just figured that frosting bite was a part of having chickens in a freezing climate. Probably why I'm moving towards birds with a rose comb. Some of my current birds have a touch of it on the tips of there combs but I never did anything for them, nor do I plan on it.

Edit: I have managed to have chickens in -25 weather without my white leghorn hens getting even a touch of frostbite. Their combs were about 3 inches high..... I have good ventilation in my coop, so I don't have much of a problem. Pebbles dunked his wattles in the water bowl right before it got really, really cold! My fault for missing them, or I'd have wiped them off.

Found this awesome grow out/extra coop today after realizing just how large my 2 boy and 4-5 girl Bielefelders will be! $75, never used! I am accepting suggestions on how to convert. First thing will be to add asphalt shingles to the roof... Then, I'm thinking just one nesting box added either where the one door is, or off one of the sides... Possibly having their ramp come up from the bottom...but I'm not sure how. @Pensmaster -aren't you the one doing all the coop building? @Sally Sunshine
she is adorable Shellee! @gotro17 your closing off one side? or both? and the ramp door will be built into one of them? if you close off the side you should be ok. I would put the nesting box built off the opposite side as the ramp door with a lift up access, but you will have to be careful and put a rubber piece over the lid/hinges and use it like flashing.

Drip edge is cheap, I would get two 8' pcs, looks like they would be enough but measure that thing first. Cut with tin snips and it will make the roof last longer. When you shingle it, be sure to extend over that drip edge, enough that the shingles wont break, that at least will give you a bit more protection. @gotro17 what does your winter look like temps wise?

edit to add, your roof pitch is to the back, that is why I suggest not putting nest boxes or run door back there.
edit to add from ChickenCanoe drip edge and then gutter.

How is it your fault for missing them? Maybe he should be a more careful drinker next time.
