I'm sorry to hear you are going through this.  I hope they find out what is causing it, and are able to treat you quickly!  I wish you the best!!

Thank you! I'm hoping it's something simple causing it. It's extremely strange. The brace will at least help in the meantime to hold me straight.

Yes, it is where the spine curves. There isn't a cure, because scientists still don't really know what it's caused by. There are different braces for it though, and I'm going to get one soon. Two other girls at my school have it, but were diagnosed in 6th grade. We're in 8th grade now. One of them doesn't need to wear the brace anymore, the other only wears it at night. It's extremely hot and bulky. The required time to wear it is 20 hours at least. They look like in the picture, mine will look similar. I'm extremely unhappy about this. The brace has been known to cause psychological damage in people wearing it because they are usually about 12 when they get it, and obviously it's weird to other people that don't understand. I don't have a brace yet, it's being made, but here's the general idea.

at least it is just a brace my sister-in-law has scoliosis and she had a rods and all put in her back

My brinsea tilts the entire incubator to turn the eggs.  It's bizarre - I had to really pack the eggs in tight with padding.  When we were testing it without eggs, and several loose hygrometers/thermometers - they really got tossed around sliding from one side to the other.

Is it ok in this, since it's designed to tilt?  Until my square LG?

I have the octagon 20 and it's been fine no problems at all. It's constantly on the move if you have the turning cradle so any movement is very gentle.
I have to say when I first got it the angle of turn was pretty scary at first and I had visions of eggs falling out but if you take care setting its good.

I'm actually borrowing this incubator from someone to try out (like I need another incubator around here!). I've heard so many good things about them but at the same time, he has had horrible hatches with it. So, I'm curious about it. What's your opinion on it?

Have you looked into getting treated at the nearest Shriner's Hospital? They've been on the cutting edge of scoliosis research and treatment for some time now. They will not only handle your care, any supplies and equipment you might need, but they also have a travel fund which takes care of your and one parent's expenses to the hospital, your hotel, and your meals. I worked for the Shriners in San Diego in the 70s and 80s and loved what I did. My hubby has been a Shriner for many years. My granddaughter, Kendra, who was born with Spina BIfida, has been a "Shrine Kid" for almost all of her 4 years and none of us have ever paid a single dime out of pocket. If I'm overstepping my bounds here, I do apologize.

Mira Jane. I can hear your concern regarding body image issues with scoliosis. But, I can assure you that you will be thankful that you had it treated, when you come through this process into your adult life. I can't tell you how many adults I work with (as a therapist) who had scoliosis before treatment options existed. These folks, most often women, are severely crippled by their spinal deformities. I can only imagine the pain they suffer due to the many nerve impingements as well. Keep your eyes focused on the end result. You'll do fine. Also realize that while you are going through this process, true beauty resides within. Keep that beautiful smile, and folks will never bother to look at your brace! What a blessing it is for you that there are other girls in your class who will be sharing this experience with you. (I know that didn't come out right, and I hope you'll forgive me. But, imagine if you were the ONLY one!)

Jessimom: Your Brinsea is designed to tilt, and is a very well designed bator. I've never used one, but would have confidence in it's design.

Canoe, thank you for timely advice regarding tilting my bator. It will have lots of ventilation built into it. And I have a second fan available to use if needed. Before every incubation with my previous home made model (I didn't tip that one but played around with keeping eggs on single level vs. setting them on a rack that had them set up like a movie theater or auditorium, starting low near the lights, and moving towards the top at the back. I spent hours adjusting the temp gradation with tin foil air baffles and vent holes, cardboard to block heat at front bottom, etc. ) So, this will be a juggling act, working out how many eggs I can set while keeping temp stable through out the chamber! I always have the old bator to fall back on, and have the materials on hand to make yet a third one!

You can never have enough ;)
I love it :love

I've had fabulous hatches with it and it's totally set and forget. Does it have the cool down feature on the one you have? It's good at replicating the hen leaving the nest which is an added bonus. It's been well worth the extra money I paid for it.
