We have a hen that jumps out of the run. She lays an egg, then immediately tries to get back in to the run. We go out every afternoon to let her back in. She was laying underneath some railroad ties that we had stacked. When we used the RR ties, she started looking for a new place to use. She finally found a new place....it was inside an old log, where the insides are starting to rot. She had enlarged the opening on one end and made a nice nest. There were 8 eggs in there. We ate them all. We knew it was no more than 2 weeks for her to lay 8 eggs, so eggs will still be good to eat or hatch. We've now expanded their run to include that log, so she stopped using it. She is still jumping out looking for her next nest. She takes her privacy seriously!It's a shame you can't tell how old they are
