Good job.Just jumping in to give an update. My egg turners decided to show up today... and not Saturday as scheduled. I got the front trays trimmed off and they fit perfectly in the refrigerbator.
I suspected I would have temp variances between the top and bottom racks, and once the turners were installed, it's 2F lower on the bottom turner. The 69 CFM fan that's coming Thursday should double the airflow in the bator and eliminate any cool spots. Fingers crossed!!!

I was forced into retirement in '06 when our plant closed. I've had about 10 jobs since then. The longest was 9 months and the shortest was 4 hours.
Just returned from the vet; worms, like I suspected. Can't remember specifically which variety she said (a bit hard to understand), but two I'm sure of are whips & rounds; I think hooks is the other one. She prescribed Fenbendazole dewormer pellets for goats & sheep, available @ TSC. 1/2 lb mixed into 3-day supply of feed, followed in 2 weeks by the same dose.
Interestingly, she asked if they are laying hens or strictly pets ( I guess pets don't lay egg. It seems the FDA stipulates that the eggs can never again be eaten by humans, although the vet said there are no reasons, health-wise, not to. England & I believe Ireland have no such restrictions. If the hens are strictly pets, however, there are no such restrictions. So, my hens have suddenly become unnamed pets (as suggested by my friendly, accommodating vet).
Does all this match up with what you know?
Incidentally, the fecal exam was only $15 and was done while I waited. I didn't think that was too bad at all.

I asked if there was a liquid I could put into their water; she said no. If you're referring to a liquid given to individual birds via syringe or eye dropper, I'd be afraid of getting it "down the wrong pipe" (is that aspiration?)So glad you were able to have that done! Three different types of worms, no wonder she has a poopy butt! As for the drug chosen, it's what I would use, except I would use the liquid. Not sure 1/2 a pound of the pellets have enough medication, but I'm not one to contradict your vet's instructions. I'll look it up and see how many mg Fenbendazole are in 1/2 pound of the pellets. They should be fine. I have some nests about that high. When chicks hatched I was about to build a ramp for them. By the time I got back to the coop the chicks that had been running around the coop had already jumped back into the nest.

Big difference between banned for use and off label. As far as I know, there's only one wormer approved for use in laying hens, it's hygromycin b. Even Wazine is not approved for laying hens. None of the wormers are on the list of banned drugs and it's perfectly fine to eat the eggs after a certin amount of time.

Yes, I understand the difference between off label and banned for use. What I don't understand is why Vet told Whites theFDA says eggs from the chickens can't be eaten, they are now unnamed pets? The only reason I could think of is the off label use.
