Great! :thumbsup

I am good! Yes, I had a batch in.... 91% hatch rate. 10 eggs on day 7 under a broody right now, but nothin in the bator....

Good evening everyone!
If I am gonna keep up with this thread and the April Hal, I am gonna have to quit my day job! :gig

@LittleLakePhil
Bad news buddy! We got whacked with 3" of wet snow today, freezing rain tonight, and another 3-5" of snow tonight and tomorrow. I am afraid it is heading your way after it buries us! Stay safe!

Another quick question, so I'm boring a hovobator incubator from my friend I don't have a manual so I'm not sure how the water channels affect the humidity, I belive it has five channels (it's a plastic tray) not sure if it came with the incubator or if he bought it after, but it has five channels two in the middle medium-large size then two larger ones on each side and one small one towards the top, I don't have a hygrometer so I'm not sure which channels i Shoukd fill to get a 50-55% humidity
dont try for that humidity!!

first lets go through this so we are sure you get good hatches!! because reading that I know you may need to know a few other things!

Questions for you!

What bator are you using? hovobator incubator
where they shipped or your own eggs/local eggs? Shipped eggs = Change of plans
How old were the eggs at set?
They were stored and turned cool conditions?
Have you misted or washed the eggs?
How old is your flock?
Turner or no turner?
Incubated Air cell Upright or horizontal??

Fan or no Fan?
You know temps should be different for Fan vs still air models?
You calibrated thermo hygros and know not to rely on the one that came with the bator?

You have more than one thermo hygro and they had been calibrated?

You have rotated your eggs around the bator at candles?

You realize humidity is NOT a set number just a tool to get the correct weight loss in the egg?
You understand the majority of people for standard hatching eggs run the first 7 days 25-30% humidity (possibly 35%for shipped eggs) and adjusted from there for weight loss?
You understand that you can in fact candle every two days after day 7 to just keep a closer eye on weight loss so you dont need to make major changes later on?
Try to add water above in containters and not in the troughs until lockdown?
You know that you should not use the vent holes to adjust humidity?
AGAIN....You understand humidity is NOT a set number, most of us begin incubation 25-35% the first week and then adjust as needed per air cell growth/weight loss.

Can you get pics uploaded on BYC and understand that pics help us to help you?

And notes from this thread https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/incubating-w-friends-helpful-notes-links-informational-post-links

HUMIDITY Humidity is NOT a set number!

Its a tool to get the correct weight loss in the egg! post #7068 see Hatching Eggs 101

Miss you to but Sally is prettier lol. Going good. How's things your way? I'm getting ready to plant the garden so that means that when I do we'll get a freak snow storm lol.
What you don't think I've got the legs for a skirt? Things are going good. Got duck eggs cooking and we had a snow storm cause I was thinking about the garden. How's the eggs you got cooking?

Yeah, daffodils and lillies stared popping during a warm spell two weeks ago, now we got a nice white moon scape again..
Mom Nature must be po'd with some one in the neighbourhood. :hugs

pink line is the day I put them in, blue line is today. This pic shows the faint veining a little bit (sorry, taking with my cell phone...not the best pics! But it's hard to hold egg, candler and camera all at the same time. LOL)

On the bottom edge you can just about see where that dark/light line is...not as clear from this angle.

wow great picture, I know I cannot draw a line while I am candling. I dont want to drop the egg. Good job.
