My @ quote is not working on my phone....grrrr

Kathy (Cartspony?), you asked for a poop pic. The lighter chick is gimpy, the brown, normal. I'm not sure who's poo is whose

This poop does not look normal. Is that reddish? Like intestinal lining? The other poops look a bit too slimy to me

Good job.
not sure

Unless it is a blue or lavender orpington, I'd say Maran.

Don't feel bad. I made the mistake of keeping a feeder mouse from the pet store in its cardboard carry home box overnight. Luckily it was on the back porch and not the house. I would have been dead meat for that trick. It took me weeks to catch it.

My sister and I joined up with my dad on an earthworm farm. It took up half of his basement.

Almost everyone here have full basements, even under 150 year old homes. Crawl spaces are a pain. I had to do some plumbing under my dad's rental home and a friend's home. I hate crawling through spider webs.
At least you didn't bring all the mice home from Biology class for the summer & house them in a wooden doll house! I'll just say Dad wasn't happy & let it go at that.

anyone have ideas on the breed of the two blue lavender colored ones.

OK, I have the Kaytee baby food. Instructions are straightforward, but I have different options given per age of baby (parrot). Hatch-2 days (1 part food to 6 parts water), 2-5 days (1 part to 2-3 parts water) and 5 days to weaning (1 part to 1-1/3-2 parts water). Any input on this? I was thinking using 1 part food to 3 parts water. It recommends generally that each meal should be 10-12% body weight (so I would aim for 7.5 ml - ish, I suppose).

@casportpony
@Fire Ant Farm , I do about 2.5-3 water to 1 part food. I'm not comfortable with their instructions, and most stuff written by vets will say that total crop volume is 5% of body weight and that you should start with 2-3% body weight per feeding, which is what I do. Chick's crops do have more elasticity than a mature bird, but best to play it safe until you figure out how much your chick can tolerate.

Another thing, sick ones often can't tolerate the same volume as a healthy bird. For example, a very sick 3 kg peahen might only tolerate 60ml, but a less sick one can usually take 120ml. Makes sense?

Maybe I'll go find one that's about 100 grams and see how much I can get into it's crop.

Your best bet is to just keep the bedding bone dry and feeders at least half full.

Chickens eat through Styrofoam. Do they give you nightmares?

Kaytee should be at pet stores.

Or wear gloves.
I was exhausted after my chicken class. But, I got up at 3 to mist all the fruit trees and stopped for 'All You Can Eat' sushi on the way home. I wanted a nap and it was only 4:30.
We had a heavy rain one night. Next morning, as I headed out to go fishing, I noticed night crawlers all over the gravel lane. I spent most of the next hour gathering them up with a hemostat I use for removing hard-to-extract hooks from fish. As I pulled onto the paved lot at the pond, I noticed there were night crawlers all over it, as well; another hour. I carried them all home & set them on the DR table while I tried to find something to keep them in long-term. Turned out to be warmer than I thought in the house...lost every one of them.
