I'm in the same situation. I'm on 2 acres, with 2 houses. One built around 1903, and the second who knows. It's kind of a Dr. Seuss house, with intentionally crooked walls. This used to be the main house for acres and acres of Orchards. The surrounding property was sold off to various developments over the years, starting in the 50's.

Plus, both houses have been completely renovated - new plumbing, wiring, kitchens, bathrooms etc.

There is NOTHING similar. Both houses have the same address. So, we are trying to figure out how to appraise it.

I think the key is finding someone as crazy as we are. Appreciating Dr. Seuss style and chicken coops.

Chickencanoe, she has been sitting for 3 days now so last night I took 4 of the eggs out of the incubator and put them under her. She has stayed on them all day. this is a picture of her today sitting on the eggs. I haven't seen her get off all day. What I'm hoping to do if she takes to them. I'll take what hatches from the incubator and put them under her.

GREAT NEWS!!! she sure looks broody to me!!! awesome!!

Quote: so they run off sq ft?

Thing one and here is the only two hens I hatched from ms SALLY
goose!!!!!!

Thank you for all the birthday wishes!!
hope your having a great day!!

Wouldn't that be nice. I remember vacations.

I started with my bee suit on. Second and third go round I just had a hood and gloves. I ended up getting stung once in the leg, once in the back and twice in the right upper arm. Not bad considering thousands of bees that thought I was being mean to them.

So I did it but ended up doing the shotgun method, much to the consternation of neighbors. (They moved here from the city to escape gunfire)
The telescoping lopper I bought from Lowe's turned out to be a joke. It has both a saw blade and a lopper. The branches were much too thin to use the saw on since the warm was at the end. But, the branches were too thick for the wimpy lopper. I'm taking it back today.

My son has a pretty good video of it on his phone. When I see him again, I'll see if he can get it online.

No just 2, The cellar runs off the first floor units. The house is 113 years old and built like brick row houses of the 1800s. 30' high at the top of the parapet walls, flat roof, half of the cellar is above ground, 11' ceilings, only 5 rooms. 3 bedrooms upstairs, a kitchen and a great room type thing on the main floor.
Not counting the cellar, it is only 2 thousand sq. ft.. 1k on each floor (50X20) It is just tall, built exactly like row houses in the city. The builder wanted a house just like the one he left in the city and wanted another similar in the country.
People around here call it 'the city house.'.

The condo had single units that serviced all 3 floors.

The statues were free from an antique gallery I did landscaping for. They hated them and I love Artemis and Paris.
I've read that burglars believe a mantra - "Art on the outside, art on the inside".
The only art on the inside is what my family has created. No Rembrandts here.
Nice setup.

As long as she's convinced she wants to sit, you can move them in with her any time. I'd either do it at night or better yet, during the day when she comes off the nest to eat and stretch.
I'd put a few eggs under her now and if she stays for 2 days, switch them. Has she brooded before? She'll just think the chicks came early.

My inbox says 3758. That doesn't count the 3 subfolders that mail goes to directly. 1 from my meetup groups, 1 for Costa Rica stuff and the third is for Penedesenca stuff.

It sometimes seems like the best teams sandbag. They know it means nothing in the grand scheme and are using that time to learn their team strengths and work out the kinks.

After finishing last season with 100 wins, the Cardinals have opened the season erratically. Swept by Pittsburgh - bats were dead. Then they swept Atlanta and Cincinnati while the bats were on fire, scoring a record pinch hit home runs.. Then theyonly managed 1 win in a series with the Cubbies. They're holding on to second place. I wonder how things will settle out.

An Orioles fan are you? How about some ancient history?
The franchise started as the Milwaukee Brewers in the late 1800s in the Western League which later became the American League.
In 1902 they moved to St Louis and became the Browns where they had a very colorful history. They played at the old Sportsmans Park and shared the stadium with the Cardinals. The Browns, in spite of having only 4 winning seasons in the first 20 years here, had many more fans than the Cardinals.
We still like the Browns here. I have 2 Browns baseball caps. 1 from the '40s and 1 from the '50s,
You sometimes see people wearing Browns jerseys to Cardinal games. More so, baseball caps. It's amazing how much Browns history St. Louisans know - even those young enough to have never seen them. Yet understandably, this is a baseball town.
In the early years of baseball, the city of St. Louis was always considered a Browns and American League town. The Browns owner predicted there would be a World Series in Sportsman's Park by 1926 and he doubled the stadium's capacity. There was a World Series there that year, but it wasn't the Browns, it was the Cardinals defeating the Yankees. The Cardinals dominated St. Louis baseball after that. The Browns went downhill and only had 2 winning seasons from '27-'43. 1939 was the worst season in franchise history 43-111
They left for Baltimore after the '53 season to become the Orioles.
Part of that colorful history was the Bill Veek (owner) era before they moved.
His most notorious stunt in St. Louis and one that has been told over and over here, came on August 19, 1951, when he ordered the Browns manager, to send Eddie Gaedel, a 3-foot 7-inch, 65-pound midget to bat as a pinch hitter. When Gaedel walked to the plate wearing a Browns uniform with the number 1⁄8. With a tiny strike zone, he was ordered not to swing at any any pitch. Gaedel walked on four straight pitches. The stunt infuriated the American League President who voided Gaedel's contract the next day. Veeck also promoted another publicity stunt in which the Browns handed out placards – reading take, swing, bunt, etc. – to fans and allowed them to make managerial decisions for a day. Manager Zack Taylor dutifully surveyed the fans' advice and relayed the sign accordingly. The Browns won the game.

I still have a letter that my dad got for me when I was born from the Browns that promised me a tryout when I hit 18.
I heard that the Orioles were honoring those letters. I was hoping to pass it on to my son since I wasn't much of a ball player. He was. My dad was a fabulous player too.

I just got about 3/4 of the lawn mowed before the rain started.
That's a perfectly good serviceable vehicle.
I'm not into flashy vehicles. Either frugal and fuel efficient or extremely unique. Just like me.

They do grow fast. My wife wants baby pigs - not pigs, just babies. I guess that's like someone getting chicks for their children for Easter and then disposing of them.

Have you castrated the boys yet? Most do it at 1 week. I used to do it at 2 or 3 weeks.

Thanks for the history lesson. Living in the D.C. suburbs as a kid, I was a Senators fan until the team was moved (to Minnesota, I believe) I followed Killebrew, Seivers, Lemon and that bunch. After the move, which left the area with no local team but the Orioles, I didn't follow MLB 'til Brooks Robinson retired. He was one of the best 3rd basemen to ever play the game, but I couldn't stand him as a player. I thought he was arrogant, self-centered, read & believed too many glowing articles about himself, and was overly impressed with his importance to the team. I was totally wrong, of course, but that's what I believed at the time. The year after he retired, I became an O's fan; been with them ever since. They lack the same thing they've lacked since the 70's...pitching. They've gone through many Managers, good & bad, but I believe Buck Showalter is the best they've had in some time...if he'd only learn to pull a struggling starter one or two batters earlier.

That and lots of other amenities are scrutinized. But when you have a unique house, they don't have a lot to go on other than intangibles.

I think it is amazing the things we remember. Especially about baseball.
Buck is probably the right fit for you guys.
I thought the Cardinals should have gone with Jose Oquendo as manager when Tony Larussa retired. Mike Matheny turned out to be a good fit.
He was the Cards catcher when Yadier Molina came up from the minors. When Mike went home the first day of Yadier's trip to the majors, Matheny told his wife, "I just met my replacement".
Yadi is the best.

NEVER USE VENT holes as a means to Control HUMIDITY especially during HATCH DAYS!

You realize humidity is NOT a set number just a tool to get the correct weight loss in the egg?

You understand the majority of people for standard hatching eggs run the first 7 days 25-30% humidity (possibly 35%for shipped eggs) and adjusted from there for weight loss?

You understand that you can in fact candle every two days after day 7 to just keep a closer eye on weight loss so you dont need to make major changes later on?

Try to add water above in containers and not in the troughs until lockdown?

Hi Sally

This is an amazing post, i bookmarked it and it will probably take me a while to get thru everything!! There's a lot more information in your post than i had in the books about incubating duck eggs that i've been reading. :) I can already see a few things that i need to work on. I'm calibrating one of the hygrometers right now and will do the other one tomorrow, but judging by the size of the air sacs, i'm pretty sure i was wayy too humid. interesting that most people start with low humidity and then go from there, i will definitely try that for future hatches. I'm just starting out with all of this, brand new hovabator with fan and turner for the incubator and a 2nd still air for the hatcher. i'm using my own duck eggs from runner ducks that are a year old now. and a batch of local chicken eggs that i just put in on tues. i'm not confident enough yet with all of this to even think about trying shipped eggs, although there is a breed of chickens that i don't think i can get locally that i'd like to get shipped in once i can figure out how to get a successful hatch. with all of the duck eggs that i've set, they've all been fertile with really great veining.

when there's a turner full of eggs, how do you position a container of water? i'm not sure that there's room right now to be able to do that. the humidity without any water in the troughs seems to be 35% anyways. what do you think about adding a small container of rice to help lower the humidity? i'm in the pnw, and the ambient humidity is pretty high (theweather network website says 70% today)

I tried quoting your post with my reply but it said that i didn't have permission to post outside links and ate part of what i had typed. OOPs!!

Right now the humidity in the incubator seems to be 35%. Interesting about using a small container of water, instead of the troughs. right now the incubator is full and there's a turner going, only one empty slot, closest to the motor, so i'm not sure how a container of water would fit? I wonder what you think about using a dish of rice to get the humidity lower? i live in the pnw, and the weathernetwork website says the ambient humidity is 70% today.

I'll probably have more questions as i work thru some of the information that you posted. :)
