If you are willing, having it as a house duck may end up being a good life for it...

He seems pretty happy, and yes, a house duck it will be. Now I just have to start sewing some duck diapers!

I have a metal roof, and it was pretty scary and VERy loud - and the hail wasn't even so bad compared to other folks. It completely freaked the EHAL chicks out (indoors, under said metal roof). All chickens were fine - I'm really glad I used super tough roofing for their coops.
Glad to hear about the fly trap - I have some liver in the fridge, and since some critter spilled one of them last night (pouring out the contents), I'll get to try it sooner than I expected...

Yeah, put a camera out there. We had something burrow under the pen my Broody is in last night. They got in her cat litter box and took an egg broke it got it outside the box. The half a shell was left outside the box. I am assuming we need to move her to a more protected place. I am planning on doing it tonight. I will then inspect the rest of her eggs. I am assuming it was a rat. I wish I had a camera out there so I could see what happened.
Any advice?

Do you have a hardware cloth apron or similar barrier extending 2 feet all the way around? I do this with all of my coops and pens (permanent or temporary), because I cannot dig one foot down to bury HW cloth vertically. This is the best way to keep burrowing animals from getting into pens and coops.

Oh, @Sally Sunshine , thanks for the tip for feeder covers out of milk jugs. Alas, once they get to the "hoodlum" stage, you can see here that it doesn't always work. (GOT to get their growout tractor built asap. I wish they would feather out faster - it's been so warm that they are going slow...)

dawwwwwwwwwwHey friends! I shared a pic of a few weeks ago of a duck with no eyes that I HAD to bring home from TSC. Wasn't really expecting it to even live, but it is 3 weeks old now! It is best friends with my dog, and enjoys lounging on the dog bed with her, or following her around the house! So cute!

There is no lid on the milk jug. This chick is very good at balancing... (Unless you mean something else?)
