Having the favorite win doesn't make for a very good feel good story though.

Yeah. It was pretty awesome when Chromie won, (2014) and I still think he could have taken the triple crown if he hadn't gotten injured. Everyone was really pulling for him....

He was the favorite, but his success even with his breeding (not amazing) really caught the public's attention.
