Just popping in again... which seems to be all I have time for lately. I candled on Thursday, and pulled 10 of the 30 eggs. There are another 4 that look iffy, but I'm going to let them go a little longer. Might get lucky and get a dozen from this batch...

Been working on the new coop most of the day. Finished the floor and started putting up wall studs. I know... not the conventional way of building... but I'm anything but conventional.

That looks great! (And I agree - your yard makes me jealous! It's so FLAT!!!!)

What do you have cooking? More HRIR, or some of your Plymouth Rocks?

Ohhhh my garsh, that is heaven to me. If I had two acres... I would have a blueberry field.
I planted blueberries one time, but they didn't survive.

Yes, more RIR. Trying to get a decent flock started so I'll have more to select from when spring breeding time rolls around. The yard isn't exactly flat, but it isn't hilly, either. It has some slopes and terrace rows running across it. These are pics from one side of the back yard. You can see part of the back porch on the left in the first pic, and the little wooden feeder on the right is on the left in the second pic. I still have plenty of room for more coops if necessary...

Really nice property you have there, Joey! And great grass! Must be delightful for your chickens.

Thanks again! It's mostly Bahia, but the front yard, side yards, and back to the fig trees in the back yard is St. Augustine. Yes, the chickens loved it when they had free run of the place, but the neighbor's dog ruined it for them. It came into my front yard and took one of the chickens home. It was roughed up, but survived the ordeal. The next one wasn't so lucky. I strung up 150' of 6' chicken wire, and that's their "free range" area now. When they decimate the grass in it, I'll move the wire to another location. It would be easier if the stupid dog next door would disappear. Hmm...

Wow, that must be a lot of work to maintain the beauty of your lawn. Perfectly mowed and green.
I takes a couple of hours to mow and weed eat around it, but that's basically all I do to it. We've had a lot of rain this spring, and that's why it looks as good as it does... for now. When Summer hit's it's full stride, all that pretty grass will be brown and crunchy...
