Albuquerque is a turkey,
And he's feathered and he's fine.
And he wobbles, and he gobbles,
And he's absolutely mine.

He's the best pet that you can get,
Better than a dog or cat.
Albuquerque, he's my turkey,
And I'm awfully glad of that.

Albuquerque, he's my turkey,
He's so cozy in his bed,
Because for our Thanksgiving dinner,
We had scrambled eggs instead.

was wondering if I should have a heated in.the.tank for my snapper
It wouldn't hurt. Is it a Common or Alligator Snapper? They can live in some pretty cold water. We have both around here.

I have a breeding pen of jersey giant. . The chicks seem to sell out
Black, Blue or White? I've had all three and I love them. Wish I had the space to raise them again. Dogs killed all my whites.

My,turtle wouldn't eat today
I wouldn't expect one to eat every day. What are you feeding it?

If you provide it heat, it will be able to process food faster.

Now that's settled.. anyone got chicks piping
5 more days but I had a dream last night that I had chicks hatching. It got really crazy. They were hatching so fast I couldn't move them to the brooder fast enough. I ended up with more chicks than there were eggs in the incubator. The first ones to hatch were all black (like they're supposed to be) then a bunch of chipmunk ones, then a bright blue one (like an indigo bunting), then a bright red one. It seemed so real.

no it's a baby
How big is it? How many inches from front to rear of it's upper shell. Has it tried to bite you yet? It will eventually.

The fires near me are under control and being managed
The fires in Fort Mac are another story. They finally got some rain to help, but the area still burning is twice the size of,Manhattan.
The towns are safe, but the forest is still tinder dry
That's really scary.

Quick question. If you had to choose between Bantam Cochin hatching eggs, sizzle hatching eggs, plain silkie eggs or drizzle polish eggs which would you choose?
That's a personal choice thing.
I've owned all but the silkie/sizzles. They and polish are vulnerable to hawks. I had Black, White-capped Black and Gold Laced. Pretty birds but not great for free ranging.
I probably wouldn't want to own any of the birds on your list. I prefer daytime predator resistant large fowl. None of those qualify. Only the polish have the potential to be good layers.
It is a reptile with slow metabolism it doesn't need to eat every day!
It could survive month without eating! It's depend also on the temp.

I don't feed mine everyday but not sure what the difference is between tortoises and turtles...
Tortoises are land based with clubby feet, turtles spend most of their time in the water and have webbed feet.
Terrapins spend time on both land and water.

Boiled eggs! I can't believe no one mentioned boiled eggs!!!! Dax, I won't offer to be your wife (trust me, I'm too much of a PITA anyway, you wouldn't want me), but I WILL offer the advice of a busy person - keep a whole bunch of boiled eggs in the fridge. You just grab one or two, and shove them in a baggie or tupperware bag. They are fine out of the fridge for several hours, nicely room temp by lunch time (or in your case, a few hours).

When I worked early and didn't have time for breakfast, I'd grab a couple hard boiled eggs and eat them on the way to work.

So sorry to hear about the bee drama. Love hearing about the mushroom spawn. I keep meaning to try this, even got a few books. No time to read them, though...

Yikes - so glad they were ok otherwise, though.

BTW, been meaning to ask - did you ever find a good (less expensive) source for potable water hoses? I am fixin' to set up automatic waterers in the runs for the summer, and plan on using that. Most of the spans are short enough that it may actually be reasonable to try (and I may set up a little hydrant near my coops anyway).

The best I've found so far are these two.

I have had trouble with the connections leaking before and they kink. However, if I only use it to fill the water barrels, I shouldn't have to worry about that.

Yeah, so sorry, but if you hatch, you have to think about what to do with the boys. And if you don't want to do it yourself, and decide to rehome them, be aware that sometimes they COULD go to be "bait" to train fighting cocks (at least around here), or someone's dinner and they just didn't tell you.

If you charge enough for them, you know they will be used for breeding. If they're going to be dinner, they'll be my dinner. I'm not giving food away.

Trust me - my first time I let it go a little too long before culling the boys. They were all drawing blood from each other, and attacking the poor girls who were completely terrorized. It was so horrible. It is not a kindness to try to keep all boys. Best to plan ahead.

I like to keep boys and girls separated, just for those reasons.

Oh the horror. I've left our basement door unlocked before.
We rarely lock the doors and never lock the basement door. (there's no basement access from the house)
Never lock the garage either.
We used to lock up when we went away on vacation but got lax about that over the years.
