Missing a sapphire that was hiding in the bator. also missing the chick with the open navel. Black chicks! 1 pullet, 2 cockerels? 1 "boy" has dark spots on his toes. Not like the pullet, though. Brown chicks! 1 cockerel for sure. Yellow babies!

Now there is only one egg left and Mom duck is gone

It went OK for a first time. I learned things for the future if I have to do it again. Unless I am really impressed I will just take cockerels to the swap and let the Hispanics and others who come for dinner take care of it.
Please don't say cockerels around me right now. I ordered Welsummer pullets, and they are both male, 2/12 hatchery RIR pullets are male, two of three Sapphires are male, as of today 8/13 Heritage RIR are cockerels, and the only one I wanted cockerels from the BBS Ameruacana at least three of four if not all four are pullets. ud

We had similar success with cockerels when we first started with chicks. 4 out of 5 were roosters. I feel the frustration. They must have shipped the wrong box of chicks to the feed store.

Call me crazy, but .... I was wondering what my ducks really eat so I tried a piece of their food hide ) and YUCK! I can't believe they eat that stuff! Kinda tastes like what it smells like except it also tastes stale. I now recommend that you all try some of your ducks food and adjust their diets accordingly! jk Oh But I must! I can't think of how, though. That's no good. Oooh I know I can get a giant pea and drive it around so all the ducks will come and follow me! That is the best plan ever!

Washing her sunblock off because she is having fun. Oh well! Jojo comes to the door, wanting to come in. Hating that the dog gets to. I do not intend to let a mutt have a free pass in a few weeks, but... Some of them are already nice looking! Barefoot since her flip flop fell off, and she would rather take off the other than give up her two drinks or muffin. Breakfast outside went much better when she didn't know that I always serve food that she is allowed to share.

Our beautiful Biel roo just attacked our 6 year old... She told me he did it yesterday too- I didn't believe her and had her go in the run where he couldn't see me. He's only 4 months old, with no spurs yet. He indeed came around the run, right for her, with his hackle feathers puffed and his chest out. I had always said I'd have a no tolerance policy... He's so gorgeous, but not more than our little girl. I told her I was so sorry I didn't believe her and that Big Handsome would be gone by morning

Ok. So I have 21 chicks out. I think two are DIS, but one egg has an internal pip. I can hear it chirping but no external pip. The first chick was out at 6 am yesterday...do I do anything yet?

Well, I've been saved from myself because the babies at the breeder I want to use are all sold. I'm thinking next spring, and putting my name on a waiting list. That's almost a year away, so I think I can be ready by then - hopefully. 

I'm ok with putting off the milking for a little bit, because I need to be able to fit twice a day milking at consistent times into my work schedule.

If you want you can leave the kids on the doe and just milk once a day. My friend pulls them during the day, and milks in the early evening before reuniting them after the first week or two. The opposite works for some people.

No goat news! Sorry I forgot who asked. I haven't put hands on her in two days, so I need to make an effort to do that.

Roxie nearly strangled herself on muscadine vines a few days ago. My farm friend up the road was here, and we were outside visiting so luckily I saw it just as it happened. Farm friend said I need to worm everyone, so that's on my list now.

I asked! Just waiting for baby news!!! Lol

Sure. They started on May 28th and have been adding ever since. Too many trying and it's been give and take for them with eggs. For the most part they are keeping them covered.
