Actually, Banti's right. Heavens refers to the sky, like where the stars are. Heaven's means Heaven owns something; thus, if you say, "Good Heaven's lady!" (that's what you said, right?), then you are saying that Heaven owns her. :D

I knew I should have had coffee this morning.... Thanks! :thumbsup

Nah, I'll let you slide this time

Noooooo! You can't say "more better"! It's just "better.":rant

:clap

Not you again!!  :gig

LOL
You told Bubbles she was right, after all. I just hope she don't see it  :gig

Ouch! Did you have to put it in bold? My eyes......
:rant   DOESN'T!

She will :D
@BantyChooks

Thank you! Now, I promote you to chief grammar corrector. :clap

And why do you 'spose I made it bold!!!

(Watch out, incorrect grammar coming up)

'cause yer too stoopid to know better? :p

:smack You need this.
If you're going to say suppose in a shortened form, you should say s'pose, not 'spose. And because that is an interrogative sentence, you need to put a question mark after it.

Banti, help!

You are doing well!

Hey! It got your attention, didn't it?  That's exactly why I did it the way I did.

:smack
Yes, it did :gig
Incorrect grammar always catches my attention.
:smack

You are amazing! I can now retire in peace. :thumbsup

One down, one to go

Just wanted to thank everyone for watching the feed yesterday, 6 of 9 so far are in the brooder, the top corner is still having trouble getting out. No pips in the other two. I'm happy none the less, drastic improvement from my last hatch.
Glad to hear of more hatches. I tagged the wrong person this morning. :fl. For the rest

Based on my most recent broody experience I would mark the ones she has for sure. I attempted to allow her to hatch where she was originally nesting and out of 8 eggs that she originally had only 1 managed to hatch. Others were adding, they were getting cracked, I suspect at least in part from her trying to keep the other hens out. Once the chick hatched and came off the nest for the first time my rooster wasn't sure what to think about it and killed it. It will probably be some time before I allow a broody, in the past I always broke them, but when I do I will plan for them to have separate quarters.
I like separate quarters. I have 3 small breeder units I put them in if they're vacant.
It is the perfect size for a broody with eggs/chicks.
This is the apartment with a broody black leghorn that hatched some penedesencas.

This is a nest in the main coop where an Orpington hatched some Welsummers and Ameraucanas.

I gave this hen 34 chicks.

You need a hobby.

...
I have too many hobbies.

Nobody is never by himself, he's always got Somebody.
I never mentioned Nobody never doing something, I said Nobody never did nothing.
I can't keep up. Is that a septuple negative?

I found the box of checks after tearing apart my entire bedroom. Now my bedroom is a mess, I hurt my wrist, and I have no idea how the checks were in the second place I looked originally but didn't find them.
You didn't trust yourself.
I don't use checks any more.

like i said zip should be no more than 90 minutes,
a few more hours could be too long,

if they are shipped eggs it could explain the malpo, also sounds like your incubator may have been running a tad cool

Good Luck!!

They don't always happen that fast. I had one take 2 days to unzip about a week ago. There were others hatching so I didn't try to help. It made it out and is doing fine now.
One persistent and resilient dude.

A rabbit that wants to be a cop someday, and does it. She moves to Zootopia where predators don't eat prey (no fowl to speak of in the movie). She meets a sly fox, and ends up having to work with him to solve a case. It turns out he is just a misunderstood fox that was traumatized as a child. He is so just so darn sweet and he sticks up for her, saves her life... He is her hero.

I guess those stories - as cute as they are - are why people grow up not getting the threat that predators can be, till it's too late. I mean nothing by it, just an observation.

Ah.

We've all been there!
Yep. I've been a pupil in the School of Hard Knocks more than once!

I don't think that school ever dismisses class.

Still air, and I believe the air cells are too small. Should I try to candle and take a picture, even though it's not night yet?

Also, what do y'all use for hygrometers? I need something that's fairly accurate (I will calibrate, don't worry) and not too expensive. Any ideas?
I don't trust any cheap hygrometer. In fact, I don't currently use one. I use a gram scale to weigh eggs periodically. I can't see air cells most of the time anyway.
Here's some decent humidity meters you can trust.

If you're building your own incubator, this sensor isn't stand alone but at $5 and accurate to 5% is good enough.

what does it mean
It means it should be left under the hen. If it means anything else, you can't do anything about it anyway. You cannot improve on the conditions under a broody hen. If something goes wrong, it means it wasn't meant to hatch or that you handled and interfered too much.
Leave eggs under broodies alone.
Do you think you know better than a broody hen that is a descendant of a million year line of broody hens?

Just popping in....so far I have two of three hatched.....Tiny little silkies

My wife discovered my LG in the spare bedroom this morning. After over a month. It has a chick I have to pull out today. I don't think the others from that bunch will do anything. I have a lot due on the 26th.

She said, what is that thing in the bedroom with a chick in it?
She follows my hobbies so closely.

Looks like Miss Broody's decided being broody is no fun. Caught her off the nest 45 min. ago; she's still off the nest and her eggs are cool.
No biggie; still have 12 cooking.
They can stay off a long time at the beginning of incubation, especially if it is hot out.
They can sit for 12-24 hours, quit and start up again - successfully.

Good eye.

WRONG!!! "Heaven" is singular. Adding the 's makes it possesive. And "Heavens" is plural; there isn't but one Heaven!!!!!

heavens as in sky

@ChickenCanoe

No way am I quoting that long post.

Yes, I have a full basement, but the point is moot, at least for now: she quit the nest. Maybe she'll try again; we'll see.

That 3-legged chick didn't come from a double yolker, did it?
I don't blame you.
If people brood in their basement, you could also do a broody there.
No it was just an anomaly. I think it happens to all animals but more often in egg layers. Weird things happen when those genes get jostled and inappropriately heated.
It was a non functioning 6 toed leg that grew out of its rear end. One of the other legs didn't work either so I put it down.

And why do you 'spose I made it bold!!!
For emphasis?

Missing the taters and carrots.
They look like they're still alive.
