Well, I watched for a while, and a couple of the other CL girls in that coop are now looking a bit iffy to me.

I know stress can bring Mareks on, manifesting illness, and this has been a hot week. I'm glad I'm getting a necropsy, though - on the chance it's something else, like worms or something - I was going to worm them just as a matter of course, but didn't want to if they were looking unwell. I should get an answer in a day or so, so I will wait until then.

How hot is it where you are?

Honestly, I complain, but not that hot compared to temps we generally get in summer, it's just been one of the first hot weeks this summer, so they are adapting (as am I). Most days 95-96F, several days up to 98F this week, but today was only 92F (it rained a bit). They are in shade with cool fresh water in waterer and in "footbath". There are two naked neck girls in there with them who are fine. (Interestingly, my adult CLs pant LESS than my adult NNs, maybe because of body size? My older CLs handle heat like champs...)

Fire Ant Farm, so sorry to hear your issues. Hugs!

Low 90s here tomorrow, waterers are filled fans are on and the runs are wetted down. Talk about icky, will be tempted to remove my chest support device and dry it out on the review on my way home. Gotta love Ohio and heavy work clothes.

Can't have too much help
No. Not in this case anyway.

That's pretty warm to me. Hopefully it's just the heat getting to them.

Thanks - I hope so (though heaven help them if they can't manage this, as it'll get hotter...). I tried to get my hands on all of them at bed time just now (which did NOT make me very popular). All that I could get my hands on had pretty good body condition as best I could tell - not sure I got them all, but that reassured me at least a little. I will feel better when I hear the necropsy results, one way or another.

I need to get my chicken numbers down and was planning on considering some tough decisions - maybe some of that will end up being taken out of my hands. I am in the phase of trying out a couple different breeds and deciding what I want to keep in my flock, so their sturdiness is an important part of that equation...
