Only going down that far or a little farther wouldn't be to bad with clam shells. Even with the weight of the building I'd still be worried about heaving. Putting sacrete (or whatever it's called) around the posts?8 posts; 1 on each corner & 1 in the middle of each side for support; 5 yet to dig.
