Hello all, and good night all. I just locked down 3 eggs I felt confident in of gotro17's eggs, 3 of my eggs I thought looked good, but the 14 BCM's did not look good. Just 1 looked like it had gone full term.

Let's hope some hatch!
fl.gif

I originally put in 12 duck and 25 pheasant, for who asked
Thats awesome, when are they due??

Anyone ever seen this much blood? Or this thing hanging down? Baby was malpoed but hatched overnight all by itself.

NAVELS She HATCHED! But what's with her butt? post #25012
Umbilical Gunk aka Strings post #25012

I was cursing the fact that I have not gotten a new one the whole time. The Muscovies will require a sweatshirt to protect my arms, but they can be caught. Those Pekin... Well, the little ones anyway. I think it is more because they are protecting the babies.
Wanna have a good laugh? "All around the lilac bush, Abi chased the duckling. The duckling thought it was all in fun. Pop! Goes another duckling!"
I was chasing a whole line of waddling ducks around that bush! Jojo was chasing me though. He is a nut!
lau.gif
I have no idea why the Muscovies joined the parade.
lol, i can picture this !!

I think most of my chicks are progressing at a decent rate, though I can't help but wonder if the two little ones will ever catch up. Not that it matters, since they're two of five cockerels. I have 3 pullets from each of the two families, so I should be able to come up with a minimum of a breeding pair (per family) in the spring. I'd love to get two sets of trios, or even quads for breeding, but only time will tell how many will be selected for breeding. I have a good bit of time to see how they turn out, and they'll only be 11 weeks old in 3 days, but I'm bored so I'm going to post pics anyway...

"Runt"...

Runt's cockerel cousins tower over him. It doesn't bother him, though. What he lacks in size, he makes up for in spunk. He'll take on both of them at once...
He's not likely to ever catch up, and I have someone asking for a "rooster" to throw in with their barnyard birds.

Of course, no photo session would ever be complete without C.J. (Champ, Jr.) taking a siesta on my knee...

Any and all comments are welcome. I know they're young, but feel free to critique my birds... just to make sure I'm not wearing blinders and missing something.
love the coloring on the top one! and the rooster all the way to the right
very pretty birds!

All the talk of healthier eating and tomatoes made me think to share one I really like. Since pasta makes me crave tons of it I have switched to using spaghetti squash to make my spaghetti and I like it just as much without the cravings for more and more. The nice thing is you can cook it in the oven or poke it with a fork a few times and toss it in the microwave. Five minutes, turn over three or so more, cut it in half use a fork ot string/shred it out of its shell and add to the sauce. I made it yesterday with fresh portobello muchrooms in my sauce. Then either ground beef or turkey. Yummy

Here is my new cat from the shelter to keep my three year old company since I work so much. Since I have a Luna, this is Hermione (dilute torte).

@Sally Sunshine I hope your son is doing better and you are getting to relax and get things done.
very pretty!

@Phage and everyone else, my Spalding peahen laid her first egg today!

No goatlings, @Sally Sunshine .

I thought she was going to lose her plug yesterday, looked a bit gross, but today it looks normal again.

Are you volunteering to mentor my bird project???

Last Saturday, and yesterday.

C'mon goaties!!!

Not my intention by FAR!

My intention was as it was, s few months ago, To help others incubate, incubate with each other and chat. Not sure why so many people left the thread. Even I somewhat left it. I will not be on BYC anymore. So I pray you all keep helping others and keep things up to date.

@BantyChooks

I am adding you back to the notes editor so you and @mlm Mike both can take over from this point despite my choices.
very sad to hear this, but i am sure you will come back when you feel you are ready, enjoy your break @Sally Sunshine

We have movement day 29 in my two turtle eggs.and my female box turtle died.

sorry to hear this

The last batch of 12 eggs gave me 6 chicks. I believe there were three clears, one quit around day 16, and two DIS.
Does that mean I am going to get eighteen chicks in a few weeks?

Hopefully, or more

Egg update: Pulled one. Down to 13. 5 days, 12 hours, 11 min, and 23 seconds until hatch day.
so precise, i wish i could be as good as you lol

Dear Sally
This kind of things have a life of their own!
If you look in this thread, it fulfils your intentions by 100%!
In all my time here I have NEVER saw someone that needed help, or posted a quastion, and he didn't get a professional answer or solution!(sometimes much more than once
lol.png
) I a gree that maybe the DYNAMICS in the thread is not as you intentioned , so what? See how nany friendship have materialized here! And I think that some of us get here answering about their needs MUCH MUCH yonder their hatching problems! So you should be PRAOUD of this thread, that started with an esoteric intention of helping in hatching problems and become a solver of a MUCH important and complicated needs and problems!
So if this is the ONLY reason to leave it will be a shame to me!

Morning everyone! Trying to catch up still. I learned a very valuable lesson this weekend. When you're clearing trees, don't be a lazy ... and leave them until the summer when the wild blackberries have TAKEN OVER. We pulled out about 40 cedar trees my husband cut down last winter and they were all in waist high blackberries.
yummy black berries! good luck!
Finally back from vacation and I'm 450 pages behind!

Not even going to try to catch up!

Hi all
frow.gif

Can you give me tips on getting grass out of the garden anyway?
little handrake to loosen up top soil

I've got a dozen eggs in the incubator and all seem to be developing properly. As this is my first hatch, I'm surprised. Or maybe just ignorant. Hahaha...

Anyway, I'm using an LG still-air incubator with an electric egg turner.

My questions: 1) Day 19 starts Wednesday, and I'm confused. I know to lay the eggs on the bottom of the incubator. But do the chicks' feet go through the little metal mesh stuff on the floor? If so, do I need to put something over it? I've seen people put that stuff on the floor that people use in silverware drawers. Or they put little paper towels shaped into something of a bowl to keep the incubator clean. Anyway, I don't want them getting injured feet if I can help them avoid it.

2) Also, should I keep the thermometers as they are so I can tell what the temp is at the top and middle of the eggs and adjust the temp to keep it at the same it's been the rest of the time? I know to get the humidity up to 65% or so...correct?

Thanks...
i think you got good info so GOOD LUCK!!

Hey now!!! There's nothing wrong with raising turtles!!!
1f609.png
lots, and you have tortoises

Yes, I feel like I belong now.
you've always belonged!

here is what my rooster looks like
looks perfectly big enough to use an adult feeder/waterer
when they get hungry they'll figure it out

I think the smell of coffee is often more offensive than the taste.
My whole family, except for my father, drinks their coffee like my mother. Two creams, and a sweet N' low. When I was raising my nephew, and working about 90 hours a week, I had to get used to black coffee. The convenience stores kept running out of either creamer or sweeteners or both.
i went to black coffee when i had a newborn

Your parents let you use that word?!
i still dont cuss at my parents house

interesting book,

I bought him potatoes a month ago because he likes them. I bought his brand of beer a week ago because it turns out I like it!
lau.gif
I haven't even been drinking my own brand lately. Five kinds of beer, and I like his best.
Of course, two of those beers are yours, Chaos.
sickbyc.gif
so what 5 kinds do you have?

I have a problem with flies in the house every year. What can I do?
kill em, put the outside attraction things out that they sell at tsc

Morning everyone!
frow.gif

I went in to check on my 4 week old chicks this morning and out of nowhere, one of the little boogers started crowing!!! The one I really hoped was a girl. What a disappointing hatch, only two hatched (one of each type), and they are both males.
tongue.gif

My daughter says I just have to try again. Enabler.
tongue2.gif

i'm really short

Baby crackas poppin on out this monin to wish you a good one!!

I found this hen on a nest with two chicks and three eggs. DH needed to mow the weeds so I brought her in and gave her the more chicks and ducklings.

Every car in I srael have to pass an anual test by low, wich in government control testing garages the check some parameters of security and emissions of pollutant from the care. I need to pay almost 300$ for this enjoyment!
he.gif
looks yummy, we have inspections here too, yearly $45 for saftey and emission cars over 15 years old dont need emission, neither do diesel engines, or 3/4 ton and larger trucks

casportpony my pen has a electric fence and it anit working it has everything hooked up right and it anit working any help
check your insulators, no weeds, ground isnt deep enough, get another ground rod

Each state is different for licensing requirements but in MO, we used to have annual safety inspections. Then they added an emission test. Then it got complicated when we had to go to a government emission control building. The lines were very long so to control that, they would set up mobile testing at random locations. There was a van, usually on an on ramp to a highway where they would set up a bunch of sensors and cameras to test the air as you went by. If they got your license plate number and the emissions showed clean, they would send you a certificate in the mail that you could use to get your license plates without having to go to the permanent testing center.
If I saw one of the mobile units I would avoid it and get out on the highway and blow out the system for several miles, turn around and drive past the sensors, But I would accelerate as I approached and then idle by, thereby exhausting very little hydrocarbons. It worked. I got the 'get out of jail free' cards in the mail twice.
The whole thing was a bit of a scam and they closed the offices. If your car wouldn't pass the test, you could pay X amount of dollars on emission repairs depending on the age of your car and they'd pass you even if your emissions didn't improve.
We still have to have safety and emissions tests but they are now bi-annually. If your car was built in a even year, the tests have to be done in even years and vice versa.
They don't cost as much as yours. Safety is $12 and emissions is $24. If you fail, you can do the repairs yourself and as long as you have it retested at the same location within 30 days, retesting is free.
ours is all private stations, and if you fail emission you have 60 days to repair

you have a hot wire wrapped around a wood stake, it needs to be insulated, your ground rod needs to be cleaned with a wire brush or steel wool, and deeper

trim the weeds

I had a '69 Charger when I was younger. It was a beast!

Ohhhhh.... you asked about now. My bad...
hide.gif
Love it!!!

+1.

And another thing... wrapping the wire around a rusty rod doesn't create a ground. It needs to be clamped to the rod...
x10000

I would turn the unit off until you fix all the problems or you can burn it out.
YEP!! done this!

so u mean if the wire is not on an instuklators just not on one but is on the others then it wont work
correct
