I dampened the membrane, being careful not to get it in the nose and upped humidity, which was low, as evidenced by the dry bowl of water. I'm going to ignore that hygrometer and just fill it regularly. There are no veins, so it might hatch overnight. :fl

:fl good luck!!

I have a chick that pipped 630 am this morning. It has not made any progress. I can see it breathing, and the membrane is turning brown. It is struggling, but getting nowhere. Do I open it and moisten the edges? 2 others have hatched normally since that one pipped.

Duckling says moisten, and maybe rescue it.

This is the one she had to rescue. If it is this bad, I would get it out.

Thanks. It is moving less now, (and still brown) so I'm going to start going in after rereading the assisted hatch article fifty nine more times.

Okay, took off a teeny bit of shell, but am not sure it is completely ready down lower than its beak & surrounding membrane that has been exposed to air. I put triple antibiotic ointment on the external membrane and a wet papertowel around it. Its beak is in a normal position, and as far as I can tell its head is under its wing. I suspect humidity got wayyy too low.

I'm recalibrating my hygro before next hatch, because I don't think it is accurate anymore.

I think it will be okay. I was mostly worried about malpositioning, because I lost so many to the head not under wing malpo last time, but it appears to be normal. I think it should get out by itself now! :fl

Hmm! I wonder if wet chicks are sitting on the hygro and getting it wet, thereby knocking out outa whack for a bit. Then it dries out and is accurate until the next one hatches.

Whatever I do, I am NOT, I repeat NOT, going to end up with a chick that has unabsorbed yolk. I am not doing that again. Never ever, nuh uh. Not if I can help it!

I hope your chick makes it Banti.:fl

Me too, and preferrably w/o assistance!

Hi Bunny. Have we convinced you to hatch chicks yet??? :fl
