Hi all! as you may or may not know, i have been lurking on here for awhile. But now I need some suggestions.

One of my eggs pipped on day 18 (around Noon) , it took a little over 24 hours, but it did eventually did start zipping. It stopped around 8 pm yesterday. It has been more than 24 hours without any movement (now day 21 as i am writing this). Should I help it out? Temp has been around 99 degrees, humidity has been around 60- 70%. I added a little water on the membrane with a q- tip, and it still has a strong heart beat.

I would assist.

I don't know where Kathy is, so I am going to answer you. Start where you see the hole. Can you see its beak? If you see its beak, start there. That is what you are trying to get out first.
Slowly start chipping away at the shell with tweezers or your fingernail.

It looks like it's almost 1/2 way pipped, so by now it should be ready to come out. Just start zipping for it, but stop if you hit blood.

Isn't it ironic how much we all worry about chicks being too cold, but rarely consider them being too hot in the coop?

I guess it is ironic. I think chickens, even chicks, handle cold much better than humans so that may have a lot to do with it.
Chickens don't suffer heat well. Most start panting at 85F, start suffering at 95F and start dying at 105.

Some humans are a little more tolerant of heat but I'm with chickens.

It's depends on your S/V, so my freind as more as you are "big" this ratio is smaller = less heat loss =more summer intolerance!
