I have never weighed them to be honest, they vary in size pretty much too, buy size of the hens. They are little almost like a older large quail egg perhaps

You suppose the plastic airline-approved dog kennels would work? Sturdier than a cardboard box & extremely well ventilated.

They are not well ventilated. If you leave an animal in one, they can die from the heat.
