now that you know its there who cares, just gotta check it
It's four feet back. I thought of just checking it, but ... Okay a rake should work if I remove the racks. :thumbsup
Hey all! I'm planning on doing a readback sometime, just haven't gotten around to it. I have a question that is not related to incubation, but since there are many non-incubation topics discussed on here, I figured it would be ok to ask. :D Does anyone have any helpful tips or secrets on giving a chicken a pill? I have been just breaking the capsule open and putting it on wet craisins (her absolute favorite snack), but she's getting bored of that and all the other things I've put it on, so finally, I have no choice but to shove the whole capsule down her throat. Unfortunately, she has been most uncooperative, and I am at a loss of what to do. If anyone can help, it is much appreciated. I do know how to give it to her, but I can't. Thank you. A question that is related to incubation ... my parakeet laid six eggs and hatched three, and it's been a little while so I don't think the others will hatch. I candled them and tossed them all as they looked either infertile or dead. My question is, why are the air cells so big? Chicken egg air cells are much smaller compared to the egg. Have a great weekend, everybody!
Applesauce. I can't imagine how air cells can be too big under a broody.

It does look easy ... now I'll go try it and see if it's as easy as it looks! Thank you very much!

That could be. If I was incubating them myself, I could have candled all of them before the hatch date(s) and compared the air cells. Maybe if she tries this again, I'll make a nestbox I can easily access and candle them.
lol, i watched a couple others and this looked the easiest

Marking them all for the nest. In case I ended up letting the broodies have them all, and another hen laid in their nest.
Gotcha! I do the same in broody nest eggs but just not so heavy handed with the magic marker.

I just read (on this site) that you can very gently pull their wattles and their mouth will open. Will that work? It sounds like it would hurt her, so I'm not sure.

Probably the same as pulling on a man's beard. His mouth will probably open too.

likely cause the atmosphere in your house is very dry, as opposed to that in their native range
