Quote: Oh, I didn't do nearly enough. I did empty a bunch of 4" pots and gallon pots that had dirt in them from expired seedlings - they were cluttering up an area I wanted to use to sit, etc. Then I played the "Mommy is not an evil witch, don't you want to jump on her knee?" game with the pullets.![]()

VERY drought tolerant - hard to get rid of, actually - essentially like a weed in my yard, along with prickly pear. Pretty flowers, though. They would do very well in your climate (like any plant, you'd water it in at first, but once established, shouldn't really need water...)
Too dark to get you a photo of mine (I will tomorrow), but here is a photo from Wikipedia - the ones I have have very sharp, very firm needle-like fronds and are indestructible:

You know, before ever got chickens, I got a giant metal rooster to put in the yard (which I named Rodney) - taller than me at the comb. He got put away when I was having some tree work done - I need to bring him back out again... (The second one is in my yard, with a briefcase for scale.)

I just candled the last three eggs in my incubator. I had to go back to the first egg because I could not see anything. When I saw movement in the other two, I thought it was worth taking another look at the first one. At least, I think I saw movement. There were a few eggs with smaller air cells at lockdown. Maybe these three were them, and more time was all they needed.
Ok now you have my attention. How's the size of the NN. I got some from the feed store here. I'm sure they are not as good as yours will be coming from a breeder.
Here's a few

We had a lightning storm a few years back that I can only describe as other worldly. It was amazing. We don't get them very often but this one was something.
