With the exception of a couple of OOPS breedings, and a handful of inside pets (Cocker, Llasa Apso, & a JR), all my dogs were bred for hunting; specifically for horseback field trial competition. I did some basic training, but mostly used pro trainers
That's cool. I've never been that involved with dogs and training. My 2 main dogs when I was growing up were pups from a neighbor's dog that had pups under a small house trailer on our farm. Every time we went to the farm, all the neighbors' dogs came to our house and stayed there till we left. I guess we were more fun than their owners.
Anyway, I kept 2 of the pups. The mother was a collie/wolf hybrid. The father was her lifemate, a big black rough collie.
Those dogs followed me everywhere I went into the wilderness, usually leading the way. They took a few hits from cottonmouths and rattlesnakes for me. I carried a single shot .22 and we were a good hunting team.
