I actually bought my first pony with money I had saved from house cleaning. Parents had no idea! Sure they new I went to the barn, but had no idea that I bought a pony and was cleaning stalls in exchange for board.

lol, I just used my trainers ponies way easier, and she lived down the road so I could walk there, the pony I have now is actually the first in I have bought, otherwise free leased or used other people's

My first car was an '89 Le Baron convertible for $300 it was pretty awesome

Quote: From what I remember my attention was on my schoolwork, swimming and horses, not boys, but there were plenty of girls my age that were into boys.. I can still remember standing out in the bike racks after school one day when a bunch of the girls confessed to their exploits. I was quite shocked, and still am, 'cause all I wanted to do was go ride my pony.

-Kathy
To those girls their "exploits" were a badge of honor; a way to stand above the crowd, at least in their own eyes. At least your head was screwed on straight; their's seem to have been cross-threaded.

My sister was one of those girls and she scared the poo out of me with her stories!!

I had my own "issues", lol, but the thought of doing what they were doing never crossed my mind.

I am so sad... all this talk about teens made me do some searching for some old horse friends of mine from middle school and I found this:

They destroyed my brand new chair cushions - had only had them one day! Not happy.

Actually, yes, my attention was on my schoolwork and sports. I didn't even think about dating until I was 19. I realize this is not the norm. However, I was raised the same way I am raising my daughter, and the school I went to (like the one she goes to), has a no dating rule; so that helps.

Edited to add: It also helped that I had an older brother and thought him and all his friends were AWFUL, so I had no desire to be around them anymore than I had.
Bummer about the dogs.

My time was spent between 2 farms and school in the city. All I wanted to do most of the time was run the woods with my dogs but I did have a lot of farm chores to keep me busy. But I did spend my share of time riding horses and tractors on the farm.
For me, life was all about animals - all animals - fish, amphibians, reptiles, mammals, birds, crustaceans, etc.. Plants too. My mom was into rocks and geology didn't really turn me on when I was a kid.

she scared of death or what?
No. I think she just despises anything I do, including gardening and chickens. I don't think it's all her fault, I probably deserve some of the derision.
She does appreciate the eggs though.
In order to eat any of our chickens, I slaughter, process and cook them or they'll stay right in the freezer.
We'll have chicken in the fridge or freezer and she buys chicken at the grocery store.
We'll have a garden full of vegetables and she'll buy vegetables at the grocery store.
No wonder I'm a cranky old fart.

I like the color of the coop too
I let my son pick the color after he helped me build an larger version of the same building right next to the other.

I chose the bike because for financial reasons, as in it was only $600 and got decent mileage. Up until then I had been riding my peddle bike ~16 miles a day and that was not pleasant, though I was quite fit. The truck was purchased so do horses properly, as in haul hay or pull trailers. I thought about getting an F150, but after I hauled a loaded trailer with one I decided that F250 would be a better choice for me. Neither of the vehicles were new, but they were both in great shape and severed me well for many years.

Did you like your new F150? How many miles did you put on it?
It was all about financial reasons at that age.

I loved the truck. It was nothing special, just a true working farm truck.
In 1976 they still made F-100s. The F-150 was an F-100 with 3/4 ton suspension.
I sold it at 215,000 miles so it served me well. It was a 300 cu. in. six cylinder and never needed any work on the engine, clutch or transmission in all that time.
The guy I sold it to used it to tow his race car to the track. I have no idea how many more miles he put on it.
Since then I owned 3 more new F-150s with the same engine and 2 used F-250 cargo vans with that 300-6.

Question: do broody eggs hatch early sometimes (thinking about how in my brinsea, my hatches were always a day early)... I'm about to make myself crazy waiting to see a little chick under her!!!!
They shouldn't. However, I imagine much would depend on ambient temperature. If a broody was sitting in 100F+ temps, they would hatch earlier than a hen sitting on eggs when it was 50F.

I bought my first large animal, a registered angus heifer, with money I earned cutting grass.
Funny you did all this under the parent radar. You were such a bad girl.

Closest we had to that was the ' 06 Chrysler Sebring convertible I bought for my daughter.
She loved it and looked like a million dollars after taxes seeing her drive by me on the road.

Oh, issues. Didn't we all.

Help!!!!

I came home from work, checked on my broody who was not on her eggs, opened the nest box to find a dead chick and an any invasion. One egg pipped, was covered in ants but still peeping so I carried it to incubator. I got the yuck out of nest box and I think my broody is sitting on the eggs, but what to do?!? Do you think it hatched and she killed it? Could she have crushed it and it died from her crushing egg?

Pics ... Help?!? Do I need to assist the one that is pipped? I don't know how long it's been that way.
