Well, today was good. I painted a coop, installed two automatic coop doors and openers ( which closed at dark like clock work with everyone inside

) Now only the grow out coop is hand operated, and I got my goat plaything half built. Everything but the screws is scrounged materials

Congratulations. I REALLY need to get my doors done. I have so many to do, I think the thought is overwhelming me.

Nice looking guppies you got there Seth! That water looks very cloudy and I worry about the fish. Have you added anything to the water? Do you have water testing strips to check the water quality? They are good to have so that you know which way to fix any problems.

If the water really is as cloudy as it looks in the pics something is wrong. You could go back to where you got the fish and get 5-10 or so gallons of conditioned tank water. Then remove most of the water from tank (like just enough for the fish to swim in like I inch). Then add an inch of conditioned water. Then add another inch every 3-4 hours till the tank is full again. That way you exchange the water with healthy water without shocking the fish.
Do you have a filter and a heater in addition to the aerator?
Good advice.

If I get another broody next spring I think I'll let her hatch duck eggs! I didn't know that was an option!
A friend's turkey hatched a bunch of my chicken eggs.

Vultures use their smell sense as well.

The king vulture is one of them
Yes and what a honker that guy has on him.

Strange you should mention that. The day before we set the 1st truss (other than the one we'd set the week before) I marked the location of where they should all go. After I'd done the front side, I came in for a cup of coffee, & got to thinking about it; decided I'd done it wrong...not all that unusual. I went back & remarked them all, & moved to the back side, being careful to start at the same end 'cause the last one wasn't going to be the full 2'. When BIL showed up the following day, I told him to double-check them..."Don't worry; I was going to" He said they were wrong, naturally. He measured the distance from the end and started to set the 1st truss of the day, quickly discovering that he'd also marked it wrong! Made me feel better knowing that "Mr, Professional Carpenter" had made the same mistake I had.

From there on, he measured each one, putting the spacer blocks(which I'd pre-cut) in place, he on one end & me on the other, & we finished with no further mistakes, I hope! We'll see today if we were right! Kinda like Blind leading Stupid! You'd have laughed your ask off.

Always good to take a break and think things over.
Which of your original markings ended up being correct?
They're hoarders. They don't fix their dogs, and let them run all over the neighborhood. In the past, their dogs have slaughtered hundreds of dollars worth of stock, and would have killed more except all of us locked our stock up tight.
I was going to say I'd be calling animal control and having them pay fines till that behavior stopped. Then I read your next post.
Yikes is right. The past few have been human agressive as well.

When they are spotted, the police are called. The dog gets taken away, which would work if there was one, but since there are more than I care to find out more keep coming. The police have lectured this person, who promised to leash them.... With no results. Soon they're gonna get banned from keeping dogs, I hope.....

Let's just hope he doesn't move back.
Being banned would be good but I wouldn't wait. If they came on my property, that would be the last time they saw those dogs.

I went through that a bit with my neighbor. Not to that extent but she had from 3 to 7 malamute/husky crosses running the neighborhood, killing chickens on two occasions and trying to break into buildings on two other occasions. She paid dearly for the chickens but I didn't want to sell them like that. I finally read her the riot act and she asked me what I wanted her to do. I said I want her to keep them on her property. My chickens aren't going over to her property. After she heard the shotgun blasts, the dogs haven't been back.

@BantyChooks I am down to one dove egg.
Are you hand raising it if it hatches?

You ate the other one?

I'm not ignoring you guys, but I am working so there are gaps where I am driving.
We had a smattering of comfortable days in August but not now.
At 6AM it was 78F and 87% here.

Where are you?

Morning Chaos

Going to be watching for the hen that was spending a little more time on the nest yesterday. Her breed isn't supposed to set but she look all the world like she was going to.
My Cream Legbar that started the broody madness in my coop was a flake about it. She thought she was serious for about a week but then never took it seriously after that. Thankfully when she started her shenanigans two Australorps joined in and were serious.

I'm having a little trouble with the temperature in my incubator. my thermometers says 99-100 in the bator. But when I felt the dish of water that was in it, it felt cool to me. I temped it, and it said 94degrees. I should go with the water temp right? That's closer to what would be inside the eggs. I would love some feedback. Thanks!

Wow, and it's already almost 80 degrees?

-Kathy
When we have spells of hot weather, it rarely drops below 80 at night. It's like walking around in hot soup.

Morning and evening everyone.

Morning.
I'm headed to Farm & Home for a feed run. I'm out of All Flock pellets. I have a full bag of layer left, about 40# of organic starter and 30# of meat maker left.
These chicks are getting to the point where they're going through about 25 lbs. or more a day.

I think I'd go with the air temp by the eggs. IMHO Condensation of the water will cause a cooling effect.

Morning it depends on which thermometer is correct. Have you calibrated them? Or check them against one you know to be true?
