Woo Hoo!!! I just pulled the last chick and unplugged the incubator for the first time since early May. I've had staggered hatches all summer.
I'm setting about a dozen olive eggers next Tuesday or Wednesday but I won't set any more Penedesencas till probably December.

I haven't done an official head count in a while but I think I have about 80 birds now.
Getting close to time to butcher some cockerels.

CC you have so many there is a reason way you don't butcher all year long?

To me it seems like fowl pox, sorry.

You're right.
It really doesn't look like wounds from a predator attack. The comb is pretty susceptible to being torn and I see no bites.

Um, I caught the raccoon in the coop and chased it away. It had killed one hen and partially eaten it. When I first found the boy his face wasn't swollen and all the blood was fresh bright red and dripping.

Makes a good case for a readily available loaded rifle where the kids can't get to it.

We've got one, I am untrained so I was waiting on the hubs to get it.
Poor rooster. That's awesome that he saved your flock from a raccoon though!
Yeah, I hope the swelling goes down soon so he can see to eat and drink.
