Too many times I ended up with the flopping mess. Have you used the bag before?

No, but it seems like a good idea. Have you used it? I could easily buy a cone I guess, but feed bags are plentiful here, and it seems like they're the right size. This boy dressed out at about 24 lbs, and he was one of the smaller ones.

Yes I have. See Sally's processing forum for help. I put a few pictures as to how I do them there. It's much better than cones. Just get the right sized hole cut in corner of bag. Lots of other good ideas on the her site as well.

Great! Thanks for the suggestion. I'll look at Sally's forum now. Thanks again Pen

Sally you can fold a piece of Iron like that
hmmmm yes, nice diagram, if I was strong enough or had a vice big enough to hold something to bend like that, and the bend would need tighter towards the bottom to hold them tight.
Heat the middle with a torch 'til it's red hot, and bend it around a big coffee can?
:/ does coffee come in cans anymore? :lau
The best ones do!

I can't seem to find the info on using a feed bag instead of a cone for culling large birds.
(I did find a lot of other great info though)

After reading some of the struggles folks have gone through on the forum here and realizing that I had the same problems, axe, loppers etc. I though I would share how processing day has evolved for me. This may or may not work for you but it has helped take the stress out of butchering days for me. It's still not easy and after a couple hundred I still have emotions with processing. I don't think you will ever get over it.

After placing bird in bag with hole cut large enough to fit chickens head in, secure to fence or post. Bailing wire wrapped twice around chickens legs and secured to back to itself will hold them in place for entire process. Weight of chicken will pull wire tighter.
