Hi I have two questions about my ducks. I recently started incubating my female's eggs. There are eleven total and so far all have veins and an egg sac. Lately though at least 7 eggs have 2 black dots rocking all over the place. I think that's the baby, but I would like to be sure. My second question was when should they hatch by and what should I do? They are thirteen days in. I was told they need to stay in there for 28 days.
Thanks!!! I'll post some pictures of the eggs soon!:jumpy

Yes the black dots are the eyes! And they should hatch on the 28th day. Remember not to count the day set as day 1. Day 1 starts 24 hours after set. They should hatch on the same day of the week as the day you sat, 4 weeks later!

Good luck!!

Here's a nice candling chart on duck eggs

Not an easy answer without asking other questions, like what type of incubator (fan or still-air)? Do you live in a very humid area? What breed of duck?

This article may get you started more easily, then we can help with more particulars if you have any more questions.

And here is one specific to different humidity settings - https://www.backyardchickens.com/articles/incubation-humidity.73386/

North Carolina? I'd assume you are fairly humid? I would start with no water at all in the incubator. Make sure it doesn't drop below 25-30ish% humidity. Check your air cells on day 7 and compare to the many charts online.

I've never hatched pekins, but have hatched Swedish and Call ducks. The Calls definitely do better laying down, hand turned. The Swedish did ok in the auto turners, but I never tried them laying down. If hand-turning is an option for you, you might want to consider it. But they should do ok in a turner too.

Oh, the biggest thing.... get independent thermometer and hygrometer and test them for accuracy before trusting them. Do NOT trust the incubator on it own! It could be right, but its better to verify with trusted meters.
