Incubation progress of Muscovy eggs

I don't get it, what does this have to do with STICKINESS?
It doesn't, it's about malpositions.

If the head was above the wing it was malpositioned, right?

Yes and did you see what could the be the cause?

Improper temp and humidity regulated..
Yes, I saw that. Don't get me wrong, I'm not suggesting anything, just thought some people might want to know that malpositions can cause death. Many things, including temp, humidity, genetics, turning, etc. can cause them. FWIW, I just had a hen hatch a bunch of chicks and one egg was left. It was at day 23, pipped internally and peeping, so I brought it in, cranked up the humidity, but it died in the shell. Eggtopsy revealed foot over head. Not trying to make a point, just sharing...

Yeah, I saw them, but don't have much experience with stick vs non-sticky.

OH GOODY, let me teach you, if you look at the membrane, it's EXTREMELY thick, that's bad, it should be thin, when it's thick like its like a piece of rubber and if you take a rubber band and try to poke a hole in it with a needle, IT"S TOUGH, well for a chick it's almost impossible that's why a lot of them die because they suffocate, they run out of oxygen or the thick membrane gets on there nostril and they can't breath.

Now a normal hatching will have thin almost like paper membrane, like this one: But will be a little wet which is normal to help the chick slide right out..

I'm sure you have seen this many times. Well if the humidity is to high, inside the shell the chick is covered with more liquid (Albumen) then it needs to be and that's when they struggle..

Can't say that I've seen that before, but will know what it is if I see it, thanks! Most of my problems, including eggs under hens, have been shrink-wrapping and Malpositions, so we'll see what happens with the next 12 eggs that are due at the end of the month.

REALLY do you only hatch ducks??

Sounds like your girls aren't wetting those eggs, when it comes to lockdown do you have a bucket or a pan of water available???

Mine will do this, when it gets close to hatching time they bury the eggs, leave the nest and take a swim, they get all nice and wet they don't even take the time to prep. They get back on the eggs and if you were to lift her up and check on them, you would see steam coming off the eggs. It's kind of cool. This is how they increase the humidity to get them ready for lock down. Now I have had a chicken sit on my duck eggs and when they hatched OMG, she did not want anything to do with them hahaha, but they way a chicken raises the humidity is they will poop and pea on the eggs. Kind of grose but kind of neat at the same time...

Are you girls new at this or have they been doing this for a while. I noticed all new bees are horrible the first time but make it all up the next round..
