Incubation progress of Muscovy eggs

Am I understanding that this article is suggesting turning 96x a day is optimum, until lockdown is reached?  I'm a little out of it - I didn't sleep enough last night, so I may be completely missing the point!

Surely does seem like that, how stupid. Sorry but come on let's think logically who's going to turn an egg 96x. Unless that's the total amount for the entire process, let me go back and read it...

Hell a chicken nor a duck will take that much time out if there busy schedules to do that... Lol

Kathy, You are right - I don't have a good photo of where that right wing is!  I am going to send you the photo I think best shows it via PM...give me a second, and check your mailbox, please.

Sorry I missed this one, she would have still made it out wether the head was under the wing or not, she just couldn't get out, we should have most definitely helped her at about one in the morning. The best way to describe her problem was she was glued in that shell, there was no way she was going to successfully hop out of there. Now when she was wetting down her membrane that helped her but it wasn't enough, however, if I recall we had stopped wetting her, and By not wetting her made her gooy stickiness keep her confined and stuck in that shell..

I wouldn't not say her problem was a malposition problem, it was definitely a sticky issue.

Or should I say it was a STICKY SITUATION. LOL

That's how I understood it, which is not an option in any bator I know of. Mine has three settings, turn once an hour, once every two or once every three. Those that turn by hand could never do it with out messing up their temp and humidity. Remember, it's just one study and not something anyone should try, IMO, lol.

REALLY do you only hatch ducks??

Sounds like your girls aren't wetting those eggs, when it comes to lockdown do you have a bucket or a pan of water available???

Mine will do this, when it gets close to hatching time they bury the eggs, leave the nest and take a swim, they get all nice and wet they don't even take the time to prep. They get back on the eggs and if you were to lift her up and check on them, you would see steam coming off the eggs. It's kind of cool. This is how they increase the humidity to get them ready for lock down. Now I have had a chicken sit on my duck eggs and when they hatched OMG, she did not want anything to do with them hahaha, but they way a chicken raises the humidity is they will poop and pea on the eggs. Kind of grose but kind of neat at the same time...

Are you girls new at this or have they been doing this for a while. I noticed all new bees are horrible the first time but make it all up the next round..

I hatch mostly Muscovies, but Muscovies don't spend as much time in the water as quackers do and I have tubs for bathing all over the property, so access to fresh water is not an issue. Maybe the ones I've been seeing lately are from maidens, but I can't say for sure.

Going forward, we know one thing to be prepared for the next one. That we could have more sticky issues to deal with. Tomorrow will tell us this but we will be prepared and ready for him. Can we call the next one a he? You know since we called the last one a she???

We have a much better idea of what we are dealing with now and my guess is they are all probably going to have this same issue. Why do I say that because they are moving, they are making noises but not making any progress which tells me they are glued or rather stuck keeping them confined inside.

But crossing fingers they will all hang in there until we get to each one of them. We definitely don't want to rush them we want to give them a chance to at least try to get out and that's what the safe hole is for.. After 24 hours they are not going to have a choice. So I hope everyone. Is ready for the longest ride ever, we will be having a successful baby... But we will set our goal to getting at least two of them so they aren't lonely, because they could die of loneliness as well. SO HAVE THAT STUFFED ANIMAL READY...

Get your rest now because come tomorrow it will be a sleepless night... Lol

Yes.

Oh, that is so ugly! :( I mean, it makes me feel so bad! I hope I don't have any like that...I'm not strong enough to take it!

I am having a heck of a time with the humidity! It's still low - on BOTH hygometers! Currently, 40%. I put another (#2) sponge in. I think part of my problem, obviously, is controlling HOW WET the sponges are! Even three that are just slightly wet aren't helping the humidity...but if I make them wringing wet, even one puts it over 80%! I have to find the right combination.

By the way, #5 is still peeping and making the little "clicking" sound like Peeper was.

Sure, we can call this one a "he." I just don't WANT any males, heck, with under an acre of land, I don't know why I even incubated these as I will have to find homes for any over maybe 2 females! Our male is slightly dominant toward our hens (not quite aggressive, but not very nice most of the time!), and I sure as heck don't want more males! Calling the ducklings "she" is just wishful thinking!
