First time doing this. Brooder usually does the work, but after 2 chicks hatched, she left the remaining eggs, so we bought an incubator for the rest. Now, one has pip and started to hatch, but it's now been 72 hours and it's still not out. Still chirping and moving. Humidy is at 70%. When, if at all, should I intervene and help?

Now’s the time to help. You have to slowly chip away the shell and eventually it will come out. There’s a chance the air sac dried and it may stick to the chick. I just had to do this a while ago with a duckling. They are alive and happy. But they were clearly the runt of the bunch.

This video should give an idea of the process

I freaked out a bit and went ahead and did help. Went to the bathroom, steamed it with hot running water, and slowly chipped the egg away. Chick broke out itself once the shell was gone. It's back in the incubator on a paper towel to dry off and get strength. We'll see what it looks like in the morning.

Best of luck to the little guy.
