Incubator loaded for First Time

I saw the Hovabator 2307 gave you around a 100 egg capacity and I thought they got got decent reviews but it is still a styrofoam incubator and I haven't done much researching. I've seen the Brinsea automatic one that is $520 and there is also Rcom that seems nice and around that proce I guess it's just figuring out how deep ($$) I want to dive in lol.

I’ve been thinking it might be fun to make one.

I didn't look much into the homemade incubator's but that might be a better route. I feel like it's going to end up being a little while before I try and hatch more eggs to allow the brooder to free up. I also want to see how things go when it starts getting colder since this will be my first winter with the birds. So that should give me some time to look into the different incubators. Of course there's also a chance I show no restraint and have more eggs sitting sooner then expected.

So you show restraint like I do lol. Got super lucky and was able to invite the neighbors with their kids over to watch two more chicks hatch. It was very cool to get to watch in person.

I love watching them hatch! My kids are bored with it by now. They used to get up at night and check for pips, now they’re eh ok haha

It was incredible watching them come out. I don't know if it will get old to me, but of course this is the first batch. I also hope my attention span is a little better then a child's lol. I am up to 5 chicks, 4 Celadon and 1 Jumbo. I think I'll move them into the brooderr shortly to give me some time to watch then before the end of the day. Hopefully wake up to more in the morning.

Geeze for that much money you could buy a whole lot of chicks! I made mine from a busted wine fridge, the kind with a glass window on the door, that I got free from craigslist. I just added a light, a fan, an inkbird thermostat, and bought 2 turners but it has room enough for 4. The whole project cost about $100 but I can incubate over 200 quail at a time, or about 100 chickens. I get great hatch rates with it too. You don't need to spend an arm and a leg or need to be particularly handy, just creative!

I'm curious what you did for turners because I feel like most of the outlet plug in type I see seem to be $65 for each turner. Also if you followed a particular plan or just made it.

I got my turners for $35 from a local farm store (they even gave me a great deal on the smaller egg holders for quail-- which they had to order special for me) but if you search on ebay they have some great deals on egg turners too. Don't be afraid to shop around! Always check the return policy and if they stand behind the quality of their products.
