I have used an LG for two seasons now. I have hatched everything from peachicks to bobwhite quail and have had very good luck with it. I am currently using it with a turner in it for Bantam eggs. I hatched over 200 Guinea keets with it last season and I had about a 90% hatch with it. Please don't get discouraged with it. It is a very good starter incubator. And yes the key is to not open it very often. Just to add water and chick temp. I actually use a digital thermostat that I got in the kitchen gadget section at walmart to check the temp. I simply put the probe in one of the vent holes on top of the incubator and leave the thermostat on. It beeps when the temp is to low or to high. You have to measure the temp at the top of the eggs though to get the most accurate temp. The temp of the room the incubator is in has a lot to do with the fluctuating of the temp of the bator. Of course if the room gets very warm during the day the incubator temp with go up bc it's not digitally controlled like some the the more expensive cabinet incubators. Just be patient and diligent with the LG and you will do fine. Just remember, what doesn't work for one person may work just great for another. Good luck
