Incubator Temperature Problems ! ! (Reptipro)

I got barred rock right now but not sure about the turkey breed. I just went and picked up 17 barred rock chicks. I was told they were 5 weeks old , but I don't think they are ! They may be more like 2 or 3 weeks and I am not 100% sure if they are pure barred rock .....good grief! This is my first time raising barred rocks so I am not quite sure. I was raising mix breed and buff's but a fox or something killed them out . Since I have moved the chicken pen up towards the barn with the other animals nothing has tried to get in or disturb my hen or rooster that I can tell . I definitely like their color ! Some of the chicks I picked up are starting to get that barred look but some look awful dark and black....I guess time will tell. I am looking it up now , pictures of chicks at different stages and different ages just to see . I would hate it if I paid for all of them and they weren't pure barred rock !

if they all had white dots on their head they are probably barred rock. some come out darker- typically a rooster is lighter. they may also be black sex links, males are barred, females are black.

I posted some pics on a different thread and everyone is saying they are BR ! I guess the darker ones are going to end up hens and the light colored ones roosters....which means I have mostly roosters ! Hoping that theory is wrong ! I got a good deal on all of them though, the guy came down about $2 a piece that way . I guess only time will tell !

barred rocks were one of my first types of chickens. they are probably still one of my favorites as far as egg laying goes. ive always had white and barred rock, this year we added partridge rock but I haven't started breeding them yet. I also have white rock bantams and silver penciled rock bantams. as it says in my signature, im a collector.

I wouldn't mind looking into getting different breeds but I don't want to mix breed and right now I only have one pen . I am hoping to expand though , but first I need to get some more hens and more space. Right now I have a rooster and a hen in a 10x10x10. They have covering in there and a wooden shelter inside there for them to get out the weather and to perch on top of . I would like to get a few more 10x10's and build an actual coop to house around 12 hens and the rooster . I think that would be a good amount of room . I figure once I placed all of the lots together and utilized the extra panel from each that I would use and account for the chicken coop to count for one of the sides ...I think I could easily have a 50x50 setup .

if you become an addict like I did, 50x50 wont be big enough LOL. I really had to cut back last fall. I kept all the breeds but only a couple of pairs or trios of each one. I have to many varieties now, on hatch day if I don't separate them I really scratch my head on what is what.

Lol , my hubby won't let it get that bad ! I am hoping to make some money with them ! I sell and breed rabbits , pigs and goats . I started college last August and where I have children I can't work and go to school full time because my husband works thirds and just wouldn't be able to function at his job if he is watching little ones all day ! There wouldn't be any time for sleep and farm work. I tried putting my youngest son in daycare on campus while the other boys were in school but was costing me $110 a week and that was with the student discount and that was for 20 hours a week and that did not include meals . With me getting scholarships and financial aid it helps cause I try and pay as many bills as I can 6 months ahead . We'll be struggling some for the next few years but once I get my bachelors we'll be good to go and I will be making my hubby quit his 3rd shift job and he can farm while I bring in the money haha!

I'm a double major in accounting . I plan on getting my masters so that I can take the state test to be licensed and open up my own business and will most likely work from home , hopefully.
