Incubator Temperature Problems ! ! (Reptipro)

mine were electronics engineering and computer information systems. I originally started in veterinary science, but the vet I was going to understudy had a stroke in my second semester. i get bored easily, i think that's why i like farming so much.

My poor chicks probably hate me lol ! I am always petting them and moving things around in their brooder ! I was going to move them to the brooder in the barn once they were a week old but I have that brooder full with the other chicks that I just got that other day ! Going to have to either let them stay in the house in their aquarium brooder or figure something else out ! I got a few rabbits cages I could utilize to maybe put the older ones in ......Ah who knows !

the more you handle them, the eaiser they will be to handle later. of course you probably already know that. ive used rabbit cages with no problems with chicks several times.

That is what I think I will do . I have a larger rabbit cage the hubby built that is divided now into two sections (it was 4 but my gigantic buck chewed threw some of it and it went to two grrr) and has 4 rabbits in it . I can put the rabbits in a different hutch and utilize that one . I think that one will be better to eventually hold more chicks . When it was first built it was 4 cages and it was 2x2 and the whole thing is made of wire and of course wood . It stands up to just the right level and with 2 cages I could use that would be 4x2. The wire on the bottom is very small squares so the chicks poop would just fall to the ground and I could hang the feeders and stuff from the top . I think 17 chicks would fit ok in one of those. As of right now the brooder they are in I think is almost to small. They are also not under any heat but it's been pretty warm here and they are in a barn in a wooden brooder with a lid that has like a metal grill on the front the door that lifts up. I think they are doing good though. I wasn't to worried about putting a heat lamp on them because they have most of the feathers on their back and they do huddle so I figure it's no big deal.

if they get to cold you will find them "squished" in the corner with the most light. I have an idea for you. its cheap to build, great for summertime but not so good in the winter. I have kept some birds in them over the winter however with some particleboard on 3 sides and faced out of the wind.

go to post 23 and its the first picture. it wont let me upload for some reason.

I have something like that outside of my barn that we got for free. The hubby needs to just tack the bottom a little better. It's got a hinged tin roof that pulls up ...not that bad , just needs some TLC. They haven't had any heat so far and the one brooder is working good for now . The barn stays kinda warm so I guess I am lucky it's summer time !
I did talk my hubby into buying me 3 turkey chicks though .....hahaha he is such a sucker !

i wish you the best of luck on turkeys, my luck with them is awful. i have finally raised a few blue slates and standard bronze to about 3 months, that is a record for me.

what kind did you get?

Congrats on the quail ! How many did you have in all together ? I don't really know what breed they are haha ! But they are all doing well right now . They are going to be moved up to the brooder in the barn tomorrow after I clean it out where the 16 other chicks made messes and in about 8 days I will be having some more barred rock to hatch and then some more about 4 days after that and then another batch about a week after that ....I am keeping my incubator full !

pharoah quail, i had 22 hatch. 18 started, they are so small when they hatch they cant see over the edges of feeders and waterers. it makes them touchy to start.

are you a hatching addict yet?
