My daughters and I found a Canadian Goose egg laying near the edge of the water at our place. Nowhere near a nest or nesting site. They now want to hatch it, but I am leary about it. I don't know how long it has sat there - plus they put it in the fridge. But I did promise them that we would get an incubator and hatch out some duck or goose eggs in the near future. So what would be the best type to buy for future 'projects'? I don't want to spend a bundle but I want it to be good quality.

I can tell you it all depends on how many eggs you want to hatch at one time. Brinsea incubators are GREAT!!!! but a little costly.. The smallest incubator you will be able to get for geese will be the Octagon 20..

Hova-Bators are wonderful incubators, and depending on how non touch you want it you can go from a 1588 that has an electronic thermostat, and is preset, to a 1602n that has a wafer thermostat and you have to make slight adjustments through out the incubation.

I would try to stay away from the LG (Little Giant) if at all possable. You can get the 1602n for about the same price as a LG and it is a much better incubator.

It would also be great to get an egg turner with which ever you choose.

You could make a homemade incubator. It's not hard.

Here is my Brinsea in action..

Great info. Thank you, Baralak. I would say that if an incubator could hold no more than 24-30 ducks eggs, that would be acceptable. The Brinsea Octagon 20 looks like a nice little machine.

It is wonderful!!! The only drawback of it is that it will only hold about 20 duck eggs depending on size.. It can hold 24 chicken eggs and it is STUFFED!

That is more than acceptable. I saw that it can hold up to around 9 goose eggs. Good stuff.

They are both great. I have to go with the hovabator because 1( the cost 2( you can hold over twice as many eggs
